About this deal

Through conversation, story-telling and role-play, children can share their ideas. With support and modelling from their teacher and sensitive questioning that invites them to elaborate, children become comfortable using a rich range of vocabulary and language structures. turn towards familiar sounds - they are also startled by loud noises and accurately locate the source of a familiar person’s voice, such as their key person or a parent Adults can teach children to use self-calming to help them deal with intense emotions. For example, you could introduce a ‘calming jar’. Or you could introduce ‘zones of regulation’. These can help children to become more aware of their emotions and think about how to calm themselves. Creating and thinking critically use pretend play to think beyond the ‘here and now’ and to understand another perspective, for example, a child role-playing the billy goats gruff might suggest that “Maybe the troll is lonely and hungry? That’s why he is fierce.” The curriculum needs to be ambitious. Careful sequencing will help children to build their learning over time.

It is important to encourage all parents to chat, play and read with their children. The characteristics of effective teaching and learning Comprehension refers to children understanding and comprehending the words they read or hear. It's a necessary skill for both reading and writing, and it starts from birth. Language comprehension mainly develops when adults talk with children about the world around them, explaining things, answering questions and giving examples of words. Reading books to children - whether they're fictional stories or facts and non-fiction - and sharing rhymes, poems and songs together will promote this development further as children grow. This can be a crucial stage for children, as keen work here may develop a life-long love of reading. Enabling environments: This focuses on the provisions adults can provide to create a positive learning environment. Suggestion: you could prompt a conversation with questions like: “Do you remember when…?”, “How would you do that now?” or “I wonder what you were thinking then?” Communication and languageHelp children to extend their ideas through sustained discussion that goes beyond what they, and you, have noticed. Consider ‘how’ and ‘why’ things happen, and ‘what might happen next.’ begin to correct their mistakes themselves, for example, instead of using increasing force to push a puzzle piece into the slot, they try another piece to see if it will fit Children need consistent routines and plenty of time so that play is not constantly interrupted. It is important to be reflective and flexible.

Pretend play gives many opportunities for children to focus their thinking, persist and plan ahead. 7. Partnership with parents Talk to your child’s early years provider if you think one or more areas of the EYFS conflict with your religious or philosophical beliefs. They’ll tell you if you need to ask for an ‘exemption’. Children learn and develop more from birth to 5 years old than at any other time in their lives. If children are at risk of falling behind the majority, the best time to help them to catch up and keep up is in the early years. Every child can make progress if they are given the right support. Where you can, give meaning to the baby’s gestures and pointing for example: “Oh, I see, you want the teddy.” Play supports building core strength, stability, balance, spatial awareness, coordination, and agility. By creating games and opportunities for both indoor and outdoor play, children gain a variety of experiences. And, they get to do this while having fun with their peers! There are lots of activities and resources you can use to help children explore emotions. Many of these tasks support growth and development across all three of the EYFS Prime Areas of Learning! This video has some great ideas for engaging children to talk about emotions and feelings, asking them to think about both themselves and others. Children’s personal, social and emotional development (PSED) is crucial for children to lead healthy and happy lives. It's a fundamental aspect of their cognitive development. About This Primary Resource

Throughout the early years, if a child’s progress in any prime area of learning gives cause for concern, practitioners must discuss this with the child’s parents and/or carers and agree on how to support the child. Practitioners must consider whether a child may have a special educational need or disability which requires specialist support. They should link with, and help families to access, relevant services from other agencies as appropriate. What are the prime areas of learning in the EYFS? This could include things like talking to children about the effects of eating too many sweet things, or the importance of brushing your teeth. The EYFS is made up of seven different Areas of Learning. Each of these falls in to either the 'Prime' or 'Specific' areas of learning. The EYFS Development Matters Framework initially explores the three Prime Areas and then follows with the four Specific areas of EYFS. concentrate on achieving something that’s important to them - they are increasingly able to control their attention and ignore distractions Development Matters is not a long list of everything a child needs to know and do.
