As we said in the pricing part of the review, brand is a really important consideration, but especially so when looking to buy Bags. But as you’re probably already aware, you’re on to a great choice if you do go with Osprey, as they’re a fantastic brand, making amazing products.
Osprey’s lifetime warranty ( dubbed the All Mighty Guarantee!) is pretty unique in the industry and is definitely one of the best things about the Osprey brand. The Osprey Kyte line is built specifically for women! It comes in two sizes: 36 and 46 liters; where as the men’s version (Kestrel) comes in sizes 38 and 48. Side tension straps are linked to the hipbelt. By tightening these straps you can stabilise the load but reduce the hipbelt flexibility. Where balance is critical tightening them can help you feel more secure. However, if you are striding out over easy terrain it’s better to loosen these straps to allow full hip flexibility.
These bags are also made to last, which is greatly appreciated in a modern age where most things seem to be built to be replaced. I also want to mention Osprey’s hands-free hydration system – you can buy hose attachments that allow you to secure the hose to the shoulder strap and sternum strap, for hands-free hydration. This is a really useful feature if you’re walking with poles, as it allows you to drink without stopping. Removable Sleeping Pad Straps
The best part about Osprey is that the Kyte 46 does not compromise comfort for weight. The way I see it: what’s the point of going lightweight if it doesn’t feel comfortable. An array of webbing and compression straps allow for the carry of larger items such as sleeping pads. An ice axe attachment loop additionally enables you to carry winter hardware for when venturing into the unknown. Women’s specific harness and hipbelt - designed for you, these features enhance comfort and flexibility.
You also get sleeping pad straps at the base of the Kyte 66 that, as the name suggest, are really useful for attaching bulky sleep mats, or they can be completely removed to reduce weight if not required. An adjustable sternum strap helps to equalize the load and features a built-in emergency whistle. To set the standard of a modern all outdoor bag the Kyte comes equipped with an integrated/detachable raincover for those rainy days on the trail. Stow-on-the-Go allows you to stash walking poles without needing to remove the bag, for those times when you need both hands for a scramble. The volumes aren’t the only differencebetween them – there are some features that you won’t find on the 36 and 46 versions. But more details about that later. The Osprey Kyte 46 has several competitors even within the Osprey brand ( a bit of sibling rivalry never hurt!) It is also possible to attach larger items ( such as a sleeping pad)onto the lower external straps. Then your sleeping bag can be stored in the base compartment with internal zip divider.
