Use your chlorhexidine treatment instead of soap or shower gel when you wash. You use it in the same way as an ordinary soap or gel. However, it may not be as foamy. Do not add water to the oral rinse. Do not rinse your mouth with water or other mouthwashes right after using Periogard. Pediatric Use: Clinical effectiveness and safety of PerioGard® have not been established in children under the age of 18. The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of this medicine. Make sure you tell your doctor if you have any other medical problems, especially: If you are going into hospital, you may be sent a chlorhexidine product to wash with before you come into hospital to reduce the chances of infection. It is unknown if Periogard passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. Additional Information The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine.
