About this deal

Have checked and Kino Lorber's Blu-ray release of The Ghost of Sierra de Cobre is still available at the time of writing. Fallen Idol’ doesn’t match the unarguable brilliance of ‘The Third Man’ it’s true, but it is a completely different sort of film.

The scene of Mrs Baines spotting Phillipe on that balcony where she appears to jump forward due to missing frames that was evident on the previous restoration DVD release ten years ago has been put right on the new edition and the missing frames replaced. Solely making use of archive footage, stills and interviews, Great Crimes and Trials… was produced in an era when ‘true crime’ television was dominated by dramatised reconstructions. Now that Norma had so conveniently plunged, who would be a natural to play this nonagenarian grande amoureuse? It was definitely a different episode from either of the previous two ISC episodes (tomorrow (Saturday) evening's edition is the fourth). The technical processes involved are interesting to a point though I am finding the prevalence of these features a bit repetitive.

I would like to see again the surviving episodes of The Troubleshooters; Harry Worth (BBC series), Ryan International, Vendetta and W. If anything, I was prepared to dislike her for representing something which was forever dead and buried. The Edgar Award–winning author of the Peter Duluth series delivers a fun, fast-paced murder mystery set in the heyday of Hollywood. Presumably edited on videotape, and betraying the soft, hazy visual characteristics of that format, each episode of Great Crimes and Trials… mixes a variety of different types of archive footage, from vintage film (from newsreels, etc) to more modern videotape-shot news footage, still images and interviews. Also airing this coming Friday night as part of the Cellar Club is a horror film directed by Robert Englund (when will Vestron Video release in the States the sequel? When Richard Dacre wanted to go up to that ledge to film it for his locations featurette, the present owners of the building wouldn't let him, saying it was too dangerous.
