This is a spirit paying homage to its American cousins with the Bourbon notes but remains a favorite for whisky lovers across the world. Its long, warming finish provides a silky mouthful with a strong cinnamon hit. It’s a fun and enjoyable drink that’s perfect for enjoying on its own. Contrary to its name, Glenfiddich’s Bourbon Barrel Reserve is a Scotch whisky. Its name comes from the fact that alongside a traditional Scotch palate, this spirit also offers a sweet hint of classic Bourbon flavors. Double malt is a blend of two single malts from two distilleries. The blending was pioneered in Scotland in the 1860s, and by mixing malt whiskies, they created lighter and sweeter whiskies. Whether it is a Scotch, rye, or bourbon whiskey, the fermented grains should undergo a distillation process for the pure drink and increased ABV. Blending The barley is sourced from UK suppliers and includes Aberdeenshire peated malt (to 50ppm) which is light and floral in style. The grain is then pushed through a two-roller mill and the freshly milled grist is analysed through a sieve at the top of the mill. Then, one tonne at a time, it’s run through to the stainless steel semi-lauter tun mash tun. To ensure as much sugar is extracted from the grist as possible, 9,000-litres of water is added at three different stages at increasing temperatures: 70 degrees, 80 degrees and then 85 degrees Celsius.
