For my money, The Dalmore 18 falls into the category of, “it is tasty, but how tasty is it?” The prices associated with The Dalmore as a brand in recent years have been difficult for me to rationalize in terms of depth of experience in certain single malts.

This annual limited edition begins its maturation journey in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels, giving a base of soft vanilla and honey. Further enhancement follows, with a longer finishing in hand-selected 30 year old Matusalem Oloroso Sherry casks from the González Byass bodega in Spain, exclusive to The Dalmore. Nose: Fruity and spicy with notes of vanilla, orange zest and potpourri, marmalade and sweet milk chocolate. A touch of leather and sultana.

Our bins hold 18-24 bottles of wine or Champagne or 2-3 cases of lager when filled with ice and water. The Dalmore has set the standard for cask ageing for over 150 years. Master Distiller Richard Paterson has been the creative force here for nearly five decades. He hand-selects the casks from the world's finest wineries, bodegas and distilleries and ages the whiskies in them to create something truly remarkable. This 18-year-old Single Malt has been matured in a number of casks previously used to age bourbon whisky and Oloroso sherries. It has aromas of vanilla, dark chocolate, orange and cinnamon and flavours of dark chocolate, candied citrus fruits, coffee and nutmeg. Whiskybase B.V. Palate: Sweet, dry, and rich. Fruity and only very slightly salty. Fresh plum, chocolate syrup, chocolate covered raisins, coffee, tobacco. Very full sherry presence throughout. Continued tobacco segues into the finish. Dry, with a soft bitterness. Wisps of coffee and cream. Final Thoughts: If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect.
