About this deal

Unlike the makers and sellers of other golf equipment brands, Costco doesn't exactly promote their golf products with the golf media. At some point, we may merge the two charts but, for now, the plan is to include this chart in future Ball Labs. These Kirkland signature golf balls feature a urethane cover for improved feel, control and durability. It would definitely spin too much for them, and they need a firmer, higher compression ball like the Titleist Pro V1x in most cases for maximum distance and spin control. No idea, but this new version of the Costco ball was quite a bit better off of the tee in my opinion.

Both the Titleist Pro V1 and the Kirkland golf balls are stated to have a good distance from the tee box. The low compression, highly elastic rubber core delivers a soft feel with high speed; while the 338-dimple pattern enhances aerodynamics for a penetrating ball flight. I assume the balls are completely machine made from start to finish so you wouldn’t assume there was a lot of difference though I suppose the raw materials could be sourced from new places as well. Given that the new ball appears to offer the same 338-dimple cover as the previous model, the likelihood is that the new ball won’t be much much, if any, better in the wind. Well, I’m back for more to talk about the latest version of the Kirkland Signature Performance Plus golf ball.

The bigger fear of the excessive spin claims with the Kirkland ball is that slicers might have more trouble with them. As with chips and pitches, they tend to release forward on the green instead of just dropping in place, so backspin definitely seems lower than with the v2. It’s a bit like mixing different models into the same dozen (and lots of golfers play different balls over the same round) or a bit like if I randomly bent that 9-iron you mentioned a degree or two in either direction every time you pulled it out of the bag. I don’t personally feel that the Costco ball has the same level of “bite” that a premium ball with a better cover does, but a good wedge player will still be able to stop the ball well enough. These rare Kirkland 3 piece (Performance +) and 4 piece urethane cover (Tour Performance) golf balls are becoming very popular for several reasons!

For those currently playing the Pro V1 and thinking of making a switch to save money, I would try a different approach. While this may be a value-based urethane ball, if you’re seeking the utmost in performance, you may want to look elsewhere. However, that same high spin DNA means the model is also our second-highest spinning ball with a 7-iron and fourth-highest spinning with a wedge, traits that could prove useful possibly as an alternative to golfers who play two-piece golf balls.

yards versus the Wilson Duo Soft (10p per yard) you can completely out spin them with an iron and wedge, whilst also being more accurate. As with the long game, the new model’s spin levels have dropped in this area, too, losing almost 500rpm from 100 yards and up to 2,000rpm from 50 yards. From my experience with the earlier V2, was that it is a really good all-around ball, but lacked some distance compared to the big name brand balls that are similar.Again, we saw an improvement in the spin performance over the previous generation and so, from the same launch angle of 19.

While the current model ticks the value box and the quality was a step forward from the original, it remains excessively spinny (I suppose you could describe it as highly workable) and one of the absolute worst balls on the market in the wind. Spin on the driver and approach shot is one thing, but spin around the greens needs to be considered as well. Instead, the ball flew the same on the 18th hole as it did on the first, and I was able to keep it in play for several rounds. To take advantage of all of the fantastic value Kirkland golf balls, wedges, and new driver coming in 2024, sign up to be a Costco member.Comparing the new V3’s to the same Tour Response I struggled to see a clear difference hitting back to back irons several times which is fantastic news if accurate. This is probably why we saw a few yards less carry through the air (increased drag) and roll with the Kirkland golf balls.
