About this deal

We have included an activity that encourages your Year 1 \ Year 2 class to complete the sentences by adding in the words or adding in the pictures. Inspired by the birth of his son, Oliver Jeffers was moved to create this picture book, subtitled ‘Notes for Living on Planet Earth’. In this guide for those new to life on Earth, words and pictures combine to describe the world and its wonders and how human beings interact with it and each other. He concludes that there is much for us still to do and understand and emphasises the importance of respect for others and, most of all, kindness. Earth is the place where we live: it's full of wonderful creatures, depths and heights. Then there are people, who have bodies, which are pretty amazing things. People act, look and sound different. There are lots of different animals, too, and there's still so much to do. The most important thing is to be kind, and know that there's enough for everyone: on Earth, you can never be alone. Take a tour of our beautiful planet and discover its amazing people, creatures, and places in Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth by Oliver Jeffers. The themes of the book include: The sky, sea, land, human body and much more, Oliver Jeffers filled this story with lovely messages of kindness, intertwined with a simple exploration of our world and beyond.

I am charmed. A very good birthday gift to a recently birthed child. It doesn't resemble Mo Willem's instruction manual, but it delighted me just as much.Jeffers offers notes on how to live on planet Earth, helping the reader make sense of the world and their role in it. Here We Are encompasses the mountains and oceans, space and constellations, and the animals and people who populate the Earth. An optimistic snapshot of contemporary life, this heartfelt hug of a book ought to become a classic.

There is a quote from J.M. Barrie at the beginning of the book. Can you find other inspirational quotes and share what they mean with others? Written as a manual to life on Earth from new dad Oliver Jeffers to his baby son, this simple, life-affirming picture book is both an overview of Earth and a guide to living well: concepts of kindness, tolerance and environmental responsibility flow seamlessly into the sparse but perfectly judged text.

Nine and ten-year old children are gifted with a unique kind of wisdom and freedom of thought. These students realize a father has not only given his son but other daughters and sons of the present and future a remarkable gift. HERE WE ARE: NOTES FOR LIVING ON PLANET EARTH (Philomel Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House LLC, November 14, 2017) written and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers is a message of hope, a gift of love. Add this to your shopping list for any new babies being born, or for holiday/birthday presents for the littlest ones in your life! This is a beautiful piece of art that is a message to our little citizens about the mysterious world that they live in and how to understand and take care of it. It's equally for grown-ups, though, and has surprisingly deep messages woven throughout the simple narrative. All of the important things about life and the world are distilled in this sparse text and gorgeously illustrated volume. Here We Are by Oliver Jeffers is a thought-provoking and stunning book, perfect for opening up discussions about wellbeing and emotions in children of all ages. Our world can be a bewildering place, especially if you’ve only just got here. Your head will be filled with questions, so this book explores what makes our planet and how we live on it. From land and sky, to people and time, these notes can be your guide and start you on your journey. And you’ll figure lots of things out for yourself. Just remember to leave notes for everyone else… Some things about our planet are pretty complicated, but things can be simple, too: you’ve just got to be kind.

We have also included a blank resource at the end so your class can choose their own words from the passage. The book tells us that ‘there is enough for everyone’. Is everything shared equally between people on the planet? Why? In this activity, your class will read the passage and try to locate the different sounds within words.Y es que este libro ilustrado te invita a recordar que todos somos diferentes, pero al mismo tiempo, iguales. In 2007, Jeffers was the official illustrator for World Book Day, and in 2008 Lost and Found became Oliver's first book to made into animation by London-based Studio AKA. This book contains things that the author thinks his baby son needs to know. Make your own set of notes that tell younger children things they need to know. As you'd expect from Oliver Jeffers, the illustrations are detailed, original and inventive, showcasing the beautiful diversity of Earth, but also curating a mood of safety, curiosity and wonder.
