Drontal Dog Tasty Bone XL provides a higher dose for larger dogs and can be given to dogs weighing over 17.5kg. Drontal is also available as an oral suspension for puppies. Regular treatment will help combat worms in your dog and help keep them happy and healthy. Fixed combination of two anthelmintics: a tetrahydro-pyrimidine derivative, pyrantel (as the embonate) and a probenzimidazole, febantel. Literature reports indicate after oral application of the recommended dose of 1 ml/kg bodyweight (corresponding to

kg pyrantel embonate and 15 mg/kg febantel) maximum serum concentrations for febantel were found between 1 and 6 hours with with a Cmax of 0.019 mg/l two hours after dosing. As febantel as a pro-drug is metabolised to fenbendazole which is further converted to oxfendazole, also these metabolites were measured. Cmax of febendazole was 0.130 mg/l after 3 hours and Cmax of oxfendazole was 0.157 mg/l at about 5 hours after application. The anthelmintic effects of both pyrantel (spastic paralysis) and piperazine (neuromuscular paralysis) may be antagonised when the two drugs are used together. Young puppies are highly susceptible to roundworm infection. They can be transmitted via the milk and can also be born with an infestation from exposure in their mother’s womb. It’s not always obvious that your dog has worms.

Drontal worming tablets treat all types of intestinal worms commonly found in the UK, including roundworms and tapeworms, however Drontal does not treat lungworm in dogs. If you are concerned about your dog being at risk from lungworm please speak with your veterinary practice. Your vet will be able to advise on appropriate preventative treatment for lungworm that is only available from veterinary practices.
