About this deal

I say go for this one, unless you’re after that burning wood scent, which is definitely perfected in BTF. When I first got this I thought I had a problem because with 10 sprays I got hardly anything, after a few months I get marzipan for an hour or so before fading to absolutely nothing. Performance and longevity it is above average but it does not remind me of a fireplace or anything similar.

It is sweet and creamy-blamy and some might say Arabian kind of sticky and cloying, but the dry down is really everything. Especially in the dry down, it's surprisingly floral, which I guess may be the "herbal" notes in the base interacting with other ingredients but it is actually really nice and may make this wearable even in warmer weather. It doesn't inherently have warmth to it which is why it may come across as synthetic but if you've smelled your sweater the morning after a campfire, that's the kind of smokiness to expect. There is undoubtedly a strong chemical solvent smell that lingers after the opening, it’s something I enjoy to be fair but would easily be hated by some.

They are both in the same scent profile family, but a lot of what I love about BtF is missing in this. The notes of by the fireplace are more distinctive and clear, changing place as the most prominent node through the duration of the fragrance. It's actually something I'm used to from Oudh containing fragrances where the ingrediënt plays a main role.

There is an absolutely unmistakable white floral note in this that I haven't really seen anyone else mention which I find surprising. I wish I smelled what most people do, I can see the parts of this fragrance that are enjoyable like the sweetness. Both fragrances are for after hours, and used sparingly, for way after hours, though for date night I'd give Oud Mood the nod. What I smell in By the Fireplace is marshmallows forgotten on metal skewers just at the point of burning over a roaring fire in a slate fireplace. I immediately loved it on first sniff and was blown away by the quality of the ingredients and the nuclear fixative that makes it last over 12 hours on my skin and still project to my nose.

To me, it's an almondy smell that reminds me (at least in my olfactory memory) of Xerjoff's Gao, something like an almond overload. What I love most is smelling it in the morning when I wake up from bed, I don't know why but there's something addictive about the smell of leather and oud together. My first thoughts were that it smells like church incense with a sweet sugar and a general "orientallness". Bought this on a whim after looking at the notes I was not sold however, my friend who also loves fragrances says it’s actually quite nice. Let me first say that I can't support or deny the claim that this is a dupe for Replicas By the Fireplace.

I love Khamrah, but it gets annoying after a while; opens so nice but eventually gets too powdery and feminine on my skin. As with most lattafa frags, to improve performance, use a few sprays then let it settle in a cool, dark place to oxidise.

It's that touch of sweetness that makes this so good over the OG and RWI just smells like burnt rubber over dirty carmel.

Close to By The Fireplace, as other’s have said it has the middle but missing a bit of the sweetness. I wouldn't say it's more male or more female, just unisex but not that easy to pull off (only for the colder months). I'll update again when I can't smell it anymore but for now it's absolutely radiant, perfect for a cool crisp winter or autumn day. Now you'll smell it when coming within close proximity, but it simply means that longevity is bizarre. This is a promising college art student's attempt at reproducing that photorealistic scene in charcoal.
