About this deal

Small’s yellow-eyed grass ( Xyris smalliana): In the United States, this plant is found primarily along boggy coastal plains from Maine to Texas. Don’t be deceived by the name; this plant reaches heights of about 24 inches (61 cm.). Small’s yellow-eyed grass was named for a botanist named Small. Moore married Alma Mather in 1969. A heavy smoker, Moore was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1987, [2] and he died on 11 January 1989, nine days after his 47th birthday. Chester Chron. 1 July 3/3: It is to be hoped that a sufficient number of our bog-trotting [...] brethren of the Land of Potatoes will be sent over to Chester. in Carpenter Verse in English from Tudor & Stuart Eng. (2003) 462: [ballad title]The Bogg-Trotter’s Glory. As host of the early morning show, Ray received an audience of up to 5 million listeners. His warm, kind and humorous personality made him popular with an audience who were made to feel they were in the same room as him. Although he did lots of television voiceover work, Ray never entertained the idea of going in front of the camera. He told the Liverpool Echo in 1985 “On radio there is nothing between you and the listener, on television there are batteries of lights and armies of men that all get in the way.”

In 1973 Ray went freelance and in 1975 he was heard fronting the early breakfast show 6-7am. He wasn't made permanent until 1980 when the show was extended to 5-7.30 am. In 1986, whilst on a train returning from an outside broadcast, he came up with the idea of the Bog Eyed Jog. This was a sponsored fun run for Children in Need, taking place at 5.30am in sports stadiums around the country. It seemed a ludicrous idea, but despite the early hour in November, thousands turned out to run with Ray in Belfast, Birmingham, London and Manchester. He even released a record associated with the event, O’ My Father Had A Rabbit, which spent seven weeks in the charts peaking at number 24.

Who was the one-eyed pirate?

This means a lot to the people of Stroke City. Inured to disappointment, weary of rejection and sensitive about most things, a little shot in the arm is more than overdue. On 24th January 1988 Ray did the voiceovers for the Laurence Olivier awards and returned home to find Alma in tears and shaking her head. He knew that the time had come to make his bosses aware of the gravity of his situation. A few days later, whilst making a dedication for a lady called Arrowsmith, he pronounced it as Allowsmish. Later that day, which was a Thursday, his producer called the Head of Radio 2, Frances Line, to say that Ray would no longer be able to continue broadcasting after the weekend. Sadly, he was not even allowed to do one last show, Line deciding instead to bring in a replacement for the following morning and issue a press statement. He was devastated at the decision, but comforted by the enormous amount of well wishes he received. From 1982, until his last show on 28 January 1988, he hosted the early morning show on BBC Radio 2, developing an idiosyncratic broadcasting style which relied on a highly individual, gentle and sophisticated wit and repartee. As he explained in his autobiography: Derry Jrnl 4 Mar. 10/2: Begone [...] thou unutterable Irish addlepate [...] Thou barefooted bog-trotting hacheteer! Mt Barker Courier (SA) 23 Dec. 4/3: The carrots would tempt the most stubborn donkey to draw a load, and the potatoes rival the most famous ‘bog-oranges’ of the colonies.

Satirist (London) 18 Mar. 91/3: The elevation of bogtrotter Gibney to the Peerage [...] has roused every mother’s son, of the jalap community. Mac O Bonniclabbero of Drogheda’ Bog Witticisms XXIII 23: Our Bog-lander takes up one of them, and smells [...] but suddenly the Crab seizes him by the Nose. D. Fitzgerald [bk title] The Wild Irish Captain, or Villany displayed; being the Exploits and Memoirs of that famous Boglander, the pretended Marshall of the King’s-Bench, David Fitz-gerald. Throughout the 70's and 80's Ray's commanding voice was heard on hundreds of trails and announcements on British TV including Miss World, Come Dancing and the Eurovision Song Contest.Lake Guaíba is navigable, and is connected to the Atlantic Ocean through Lagoa dos Patos and its outlet channel, located further south, near the city of Rio Grande. Hamilton Spectator (Vic.) 16 May 4/6: And he even went farther to rent a portion of the public park for cultivation and production of his native ‘bog oranges’. By the time you read this, hardy souls will have abseiled down the face of the Europa Hotel, had their extremities waxed, suffered multiple coronary arrests playing ill-advised five-a-side football matches dominated by younger and fitter men, paid exorbitant amounts in auctions for things they don't want, and loped unsteadily around the streets of Belfast performing an annual ritual known as the bog-eyed jog.

Born in Liverpool in 1942 Ray started out as an actor and was first heard over the airways in 1962 when, whilst still a teenager he worked as continuity announcer for Granada, Tyne Tees and BBC Manchester. By 1966 he was heard on Radio 2's predecessor, the Light Programme, where he compered Pop North. At the launch of Radio 2 in 1967, he was an announcer and newsreader for the station. The next year Ray was regularly heard as one of the presenters of the weekday Breakfast Special show at the station.

One could turn in or out. People who have strabismus can’t focus their eyes together on an image, so they often see double. Your brain will ignore the image from the eye that isn’t aligned. How can I fix strabismus at home? This suite of metrics provides reliable information which may be used to effectively inform management interventions, refine metrics for the Peatland Code, help to test long term climate predictions and inform assumptions about the condition and function of UK peatlands. con. 1922) P. Crosbie Your Dinner’s Poured Out! 88: A bloody big bogman of a soldier let a roar at me. I nearly foaled a fiddle with the fright. Alma sacrificed everything, leaving her family behind and moving to London with Ray. Just as they were about to become totally destitute an acquaintance from Manchester fixed up a position with BBC radio and Ray joined as a newsreader. He went on to do voiceovers for various radio and TV programmes, including Come Dancing and the Eurovision Song Contest, before being handed his own early morning show on Radio 2 in 1980.

Noun Ward, who made just one bogey all week, closes with 13 consecutive pars to match Kelly Robbins’ LPGA record for the lowest 72-hole total. G. Seal Lingo 59: ‘Then dive across that ‘bog orange’ field till you run into a barrage. That lobs you right there’. Ray’s world was turned upside down in the summer of 1987. After ignoring a lump under his chin for several weeks, he finally sought medical advice when shaving became difficult. A cancerous tumour at the floor of the mouth was diagnosed and he was given a life expectancy of about two years. Ray declined a gruelling course of radiotherapy that may extend life by another year but with serious side effects. These included some facial reconstruction and the removal of part of his tongue and jaw that would have made speaking extremely difficult. Plant yellow-eyed grass seed in a cold frame outdoors, or directly in the garden in fall. Yellow-eyed grass thrives in moist, well-drained soil. In 1989, he posthumously won the Outstanding Personal Contribution to Radio award from the Broadcasting Press Guild.

What does walleyed mean?

Transplant the seedlings into a sunny garden spot after all danger of frost has passed in spring. If your climate is hot, yellow-eyed grass benefits from a little afternoon shade. I’ve got nothing against young people enjoying themselves – I was a scout for four years, after all. But this is too much. Isle of Man Times 19 Jan. 2/8: Ben Kewly, who supplied me with turnips and ‘bog oranges’ (Laughter). All this, of course, in aid of Children in Need, and well-intentioned and worthy it is, too - until one stops to wonder why the Government isn't using one's tax money to cater for the undoubted needs of the needy children.
