About this deal

Another good thing about this metaphor is that it’s easy to understand even for people without a chronic illness. It can be hard for people to wrap their heads around what it’s like to live with an invisible illness, and this metaphor presents the illness experience in concrete terms without oversimplifying. How spoon theory is helpful for me

In terms of my own depression, I don’t think in terms of specific numbers of spoons, but I find spoon theory very useful in conceptualizing how resources are finite and requirements and resources are not static. If I have a task one day that I know is going to require a lot of spoons, I recognize that for the rest of that day, I need to minimize spoon-requiring activities. Overall, I feel like spoon theory is a good fit for my own chronic illness experience. For other uses, see Scale (disambiguation). Uniform, polished stone cubes discovered in early settlements were probably used as mass-setting stones in balance scales. Although the cubes bear no markings, their masses are multiples of a common denominator. The cubes are made of many different kinds of stones with varying densities. Clearly their mass, not their size or other characteristics, was a factor in sculpting these cubes. [3] For greater convenience in placing large and awkward loads, a platform can be floated on a cantilever beam system which brings the proportional force to a noseiron bearing; this pulls on a stilyard rod to transmit the reduced force to a conveniently sized beam. Units of measurement: A good kitchen scale should be able to switch easily from ounces and pounds to grams and kilograms because recipes may be written in metric or imperial units. Recipes from the United States will normally use imperial units (ounces and pounds), while recipes from outside of the United States will usually use the metric system (grams and kilograms). If you are measuring a lot of liquid ingredients it is also helpful to look for a scale that offers fluid ounces and milliliter measurements.I also like how individualized spoon theory is. There’s no standard that applies to everyone, and it’s just as easily applied to physical and/or mental illnesses. What’s most important is that we be realistic in evaluating both our daily spoon allotment and the spoon requirements of different tasks. We need to challenge the “ shoulds” that hold us to unreasonable standards, whether those standards involve comparisons to others or comparisons to ourselves when we are feeling well.

Two 10- decagram masses Market hawker weighing meat (in catty) on a beam balance, Malaysia (1969) Masses of 50, 20, 1, 2, 5 and 10 grams Electronic digital scales display weight as a number, usually on a liquid crystal display (LCD). They are versatile because they may perform calculations on the measurement and transmit it to other digital devices. On a digital scale, the force of the weight causes a spring to deform, and the amount of deformation is measured by one or more transducers called strain gauges. A strain gauge is a conductor whose electrical resistance changes when its length changes. Strain gauges have limited capacity and larger digital scales may use a hydraulic transducer called a load cell instead. A voltage is applied to the device, and the weight causes the current through it to change. The current is converted to a digital number by an analog-to-digital converter, translated by digital logic to the correct units, and displayed on the display. Usually, the device is run by a microprocessor chip.

Whether you need to weigh out 10 pounds of chocolate or 1 ounce of active dry yeast, we found that the OXO Good Grips Food Scale will get the job done with accuracy and precision. In our tests, this model received a perfect score in performance by accurately displaying the correct weight of our stainless steel test weights on all three scales tested. It was also user-friendly thanks to its large pull-out display, which allows you to extend the display screen for an unobstructed read when weighing big objects that might overhang the scale. The tasks that are most difficult may vary depending on which of your symptoms are acting up. If your appetite is lousy, cooking may feel like it’s just not worth the spoon requirement. If being around people is hard, grocery shopping is going to require a lot more energy than usual. If illness is affecting your thinking, taking care of bills is probably going to require more cognitive spoons. Social activities If you’ve been guilty of any of these methods for measuring flour, you’re not alone! Many, many people use these methods, but in reality, they’re not the most accurate. Digital vs mechanical: The majority of modern home kitchen scales are digital, but there are some mechanical options on the market. Most digital scales require a power source like batteries or an electrical plug, while mechanical scales do not. A mechanical scale’s reading often has limited measurement units, while a digital scale can display various units of measurement at the push of a button.
