Based on my quick skimming of reviews, it seems like HotV is a bit more kid friendly but not as interesting, whereas PD might be a bit more complicated but is more interesting. I think a better mechanism would be to have a die with 5 “advance the Illagers” side and 1 without, so then make the game have 18 or 19 spaces until the Illagers win: “on average”, the Illagers won’t move 3 times, so the randomness would be much more contained.
