About this deal

It features an oyster-style design with folded links, which makes adjustment quite difficult and gives it a cheap feel compared to other stainless steel bracelets. It doesn’t take much force to open it which can be annoying and hazardous to the watch if it unexpectedly opens. The outer surface has a brushed finish that runs the length of the clasp along with the lion logo and “ORIENT” stamped on it. The fold-over arms are lightly polished. Protecting the dial is a flat mineral crystal that sits ever so slightly above the polished metal bezel. At this price point, you might expect to get a scratch prone plastic acrylic crystal but Orient wanted the Orient 3 Star to be more durable and longer lasting so they chose the stronger mineral crystal.

The case of the Orient Tristar is made of stainless steel and has quite compact dimensions, measuring only 37 mm in diameter in most models, although there are also 40mm and even 43mm options. Terrible. That’s honestly the best way I can describe the bracelet on the Orient 3 Star. I knew when I bought this piece the bracelet was nothing to write home about, but it’s even worse than I expected. The folded five link bracelet is made from stainless steel and has a stamped fold-over clasp. The bracelet is perhaps the weak point of the Orient Tristar, as despite being made of stainless steel, it is not of the best quality. Unless what's stated on the dial is blatantly lying to me (which I doubt,) I do believe the automatic movement is truly Japanese. I don't know if this means the movement was made in Japan or designed in Japan and constructed elsewhere like Thailand or Indonesia. Not a clue. All I know is that the dial states it's a Japan movement. The brand’s approach was that there was still a significant demand for mechanical watches in less developed countries, where it was more difficult and costly to obtain replacement batteries.Orient was not alone in wanting to maintain its watchmaking heritage. Many of the Swiss luxury brands were able to weather the quartz storm, although some were eventually sold to Swatch, one of the big beneficiaries of the quartz revolution. The 2-second test, as I first mentioned here, means a watch dial design that passes that test is good if you can glance and read the time from it in less than 2 seconds. Orient claims that this 21 jewels movement achieves 21,600 oscillations per hour (or 6 beats per second). That gives their watches great longevity, meaning that you’ll be able to keep this watch around for a long time. Final Verdict: Worth It The hour hand reaches the lume pip and the minute hand reaches the middle of the gold square at each hour location. Watches with hands that are too short drive me nuts but I think Orient sized these ones perfectly. They even filled both the hour and minute hands with a thin strip of lume, it’s not much but it’s a welcome bonus if you will be wearing it in low light.

Many may not miss these functions, especially manual winding, as being an automatic watch, it is self-winding and does not require manual winding. Basically, this is the spirit of the Orient 3 Star collection, simple yet well-designed watches that can fulfill their function for a long time without the need for maintenance. ✚ Design and features As for the movement that powers the watch, we have the Orient F4902, a variation of the in-house automatic caliber 469. Overall, Orient has showed me that they can do good by creating an affordable line of reliable watches for developing countries while still making a visually appealing piece. Of course the Orient 3 Star FAB00009N has obvious signs of cost cutting, such as the bracelet and very basic movement, but those do not define this beautiful watch. The stunning green dial with unique hour markers along with the surprisingly well finished case are what people should focus on if they are on the fence about this piece. The Three Star is a great introduction to a self-winding automatic. It's a simple watch that's easy to figure out. Definitely the easiest day-date analog I've ever used. For the price, you really can't do any better.First, the metal bracelet, while nice and light, feels a bit sharp around the edges. An oyster bracelet this is definitely not. Each model of the Orient 3 Star has a different dial design, and some dials are truly eye-catching with shiny finishes and vibrant colors.

The Orient 3 Star collection began production in the 1970s, although the brand had already been using the three-star logo on other watches since the 1950s.

What are Orient Tri-Star or 3-Star Watches?

What this means is that there isn't any way to set super-precise time on the Three Star. At any time you will be anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds off, which on this watch is not a big deal. Readability The Orient 3 star reviewed here is really quite impressive when you open the box. Others have noted that it looks a lot better in person than it does in pictures, and they are absolutely right! The dial has longitudinal facets that don't show up in pictures, but really catch the light, especially outside. The watch is sized as described, and it is considerably smaller and lighter than a divers watch, so it's very easy to wear when you are working with your hands (where a large watch would be snagging on everything). The day/date really jumps out and is very easy to read even at my age (bearing down on 60). I have not had it long enough to evaluate accuracy, but so far it seems perfect. My other Orient gains maybe a minute a week, so I would expect similar accuracy here.
