About this deal

PSG's Kylian Mbappe is FIFA 21 cover star". ESPN.com. 22 July 2020. Archived from the original on 25 January 2023 . Retrieved 11 August 2020. The reality is that we aren’t idiots, and the Switch user base isn’t made up of second class citizens. It’s estimated now that total Switch sales have overtaken those of the Xbox One, and that’s with a four-year head start taken into account. It may be a less powerful system, but the user base is undoubtedly there, and Nintendo is once again in a position of power where its players don’t need to curtsy and gratefully kiss the feet of any third-party publisher who generously decides to grace the system with its presence. EA often release their football title on the last Friday of September – therefore, expect FIFA 21 on Friday, 25 September 2020. This will be the same for the Switch version. FIFA 20 on Switch

If there's one game or genre, where a season/battle/subscription pass model would make sense, it's sportsball stuff covering minor changes with the occasional DLC mode. It is the first game in the series to feature neither Martin Tyler nor Alan Smith as English-language commentators since FIFA 06. They were replaced by Derek Rae and Lee Dixon. After spending a bit of time with FIFA 21 I initially thought Chris was being overly harsh here; after all, it still plays a perfectly decent game of football, it looks decent enough and, when you've got a few friends over, is a pretty brilliant multiplayer game. But, as Chris points out, the key issue here is that this is essentially the same game we got with FIFA 18, but we're expected to shell out the full price. Again. Sure, give us the latest kits and squad lineups as low-cost DLC, but asking for us to shell out again for a game we effectively own already is just plain cheeky. But at the end of the day, if EA isn’t willing to put any effort into FIFA on the Switch, why should we try to show it up? That would just be arrogant of us. Lawless, Josh (24 August 2020). EA SPORTS™ FIFA 21 Legacy Edition on Nintendo Switch™ featuring the latest kits, clubs, and squads from some of top leagues around the world. It will also feature some of the world’s most famous stadiums, including some brand new to FIFA 21. Gameplay features and modes will have parity with FIFA 20 on Nintendo Switch. It’s little wonder, of course. Ultimate Team hasn’t been changed in the slightest since the first FIFA game on the Switch (FIFA 18), with not a single extra mode or feature included in that time. How could EA possibly expect players to care about a mode that hasn’t had a shred of work done to it in nearly half a decade?

It’s not perfect. As much as we appreciate EA’s decision to finally make the jump to Frostbite, and as much as it makes the game far more detailed than the previous FIFA games on Switch, the one benefit of the previous engine was that its primitive nature meant it could run at 60fps without a hitch. To accommodate the extra detail provided by Frostbite, this has now been dropped to 30fps.

You can talk about Nintendo games all you want but I am only talking about the game in question in this review. Imo, a full, new release is only really warranted if there are major changes. Last year, I had this to say about FIFA 19’s gameplay on Nintendo Switch: “FIFA 19’s moment-to-moment gameplay remains, disappointingly, largely unchanged from last year’s under-par outing. Still running on EA’s Ignite engine (last used on the PS4/Xbox/PC version for FIFA 16), it simply can’t compete with the fluidity of movement and authentically animated players the Frostbite-powered versions display [...] All in all, FIFA 19’s gameplay on Switch appears to have been largely neglected when compared to last year, and especially when compared to its big brother.” Fifa 21: Leeds fans frustrated by Elland Road omission". I didn't have a Megadrive at the time, only a Master System, but a year or so later when my family got a PC I grabbed the CD-ROM version of the first FIFA which was a great port of the Megadrive game but added FMV sections and a full audio commentary. I bought it almost entirely so I could excitedly show it off to my grandparents, and they could see the best version of the game that had amazed them so much. I wish they were around today to see what games have become, it would blow their minds!

It’s taken almost the entire lifetime of the Switch to get there, but finally – FINALLY – Nintendo fans have an EA football game they can be proud of, one that offers full feature parity with the Xbox, PlayStation and PC versions. Ultimate Team features 100 icon players, including 11 new names: Eric Cantona, Petr Čech, Ashley Cole, Samuel Eto'o, Philipp Lahm, Ferenc Puskás, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Davor Šuker, Fernando Torres, Nemanja Vidić, and Xavi all feature as icons for the first time. [2] [3] Jens Lehmann was not featured as an icon in FUT 21 compared to previous games. Elland Road, home of Leeds United, was not originally included in the game despite the club achieving promotion to the Premier League. EA stated that this was due to the season being delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which meant there was insufficient time for it to be included at launch. [16] However, in February 2021, the stadium was finally added to the game, thus ensuring all 20 Premier League teams had their respective stadiums. [17]

With all that said though, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 had very little in the way of new content (the visual style was also indistinguishable from the first game) and yet that received the same rating (8/10) as its predecessor. What gives? Why wasn't that bashed for being ridiculously derivative? Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the dummy-dumb-dumbs who bought the game, but I wouldn't exactly endorse it either, and if I were to cut the score down by virtue of its derivativeness, then Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 should also be given an abysmal score. The popularity of the Switch continues to grow and, as a result, we were expecting EA to make big improvements to their handheld title and to be honest, it was more of a FIFA 19 2.0 than FIFA 20.
