About this deal

You’ll notice I said ‘NEO Series’, and not just the NEO 2T. Because frankly, all of them are still really solid. The NEO 2 added some minor internal hardware over the NEO 1, and eventually Tacx plans to release Garmin Cycling Dynamics to the NEO 2T and NEO 2 based on that (but a year later…it’s still not actually there). Whereas the NEO 2T got substantially increased power from an internals standpoint. However, there are points which do let it down in comparison to the Flux S. First is the stability: these two-bar designs are much less stable than three leg versions – and the Flux is particularly solid.

To be useful, a trainer has to offer variable resistance. Yes, you can spin away and varying your cadence will give you some training benefits, but working against varying resistance will give you more. Ultimately, I think this is actually why it makes the H3 look to be reading high, when it’s not. It’s staying static. My bet here would be if you grabbed those Assioma Duo’s again, and ideally let them bed-in for a ride first (the norm on Duo’s) then a calibration, that you’d see them read slightly higher than your H3. To be fair, this wasn’t an issue when pushing higher power and cadence numbers (around 270w and 90 RPM), but the 180w and the 70 RPM that I was having these problems at aren’t ridiculously low. Even the most powerful riders ride around that level when recovering between intervals – and for others, this will be within their training zones.

Thanks for your remarks to my experience. I have now found the second review you made, and note a significant history of problems with electronics and connectivity of the TUO, not only problems with the Elite App. This just looks to me as if Elite brought the TUO into the market in a hurry without thinking through the whole product offering. With a string of new higher cost models now launched, I am sure their problem solving focus is on the upper end of their range. As you can imagine, this becomes a question of where you put your limited resources – to make a smaller profit on a larger number of lower cost sales, or vice versa. First off, this is a really great turbo trainer. But that’s what makes this one a little frustrating, as it is just so close to being the obvious go-to for pretty much everyone. But, as it is, there will be some people for whom it’s not quite the right model – let’s go through the performance.

After performing the Zwift power calibration and keeping the tire at a topped-off 110 psi, I found the Tuo surprisingly (only because of my past experience) accurate. The product verbiage claims 5% accuracy, but I found the readings on par with my crank-based power meter and my direct drive trainer. Also, I’d say I’m honestly surprised that *ANY* US bike shop would ever say that service/support was better for Tacx pre-Garmin. There’s just no way. For ANT+ FE-C, devices such as the Garmin, Stages, Wahoo, and Hammerhead cycling units support controlling the trainer straight from your head unit. This also means you can re-ride your outside rides (elevation changes and all) without any other software.

KEY SPECS

Bluetooth Smart Speed/Cadence Profile: This broadcasts your speed and cadence as a standard BLE combo Speed/Cadence sensor The second mode the trainer has is ERG mode. In that case, the company claims up to 1,300w of resistance at 40KPH. Although, realistically, you don’t care about that. I can only barely (maybe) break 1,000w for a second or two. For comparison, most pros are going to top-out in the 1,600-1,800 range. And ultimately, if you’re breaking the 1,000w barrier frequently, you probably really want a direct-drive trainer anyway. The best indoor training apps make the experience a lot more immersive too, with the best budget smart trainers letting you ride and compete with other cyclists in on Zwift and other online cycling platforms, rather than just staring at a series of ramps to overcome. Thanks Ray for the for this compilation. Its nice to see someone making the effort to provide objective evaluations of products, particularly in that no one product will be perfect for all.

This isn’t an issue if you only free-ride in events and the like with the realism on, and it’s not an issue if you only ride in ERG mode (plenty of resistance can be provided there). But this is an issue for those who like the mental challenge of consciously holding a set wattage, and this is also an issue that Elite turbos have had problems with in the past – not the aforementioned Direto, which was fine, but the lower-end wheel-on Tuo.When stored, thetraineris really compact so you can place it anywhere in your house or office, enhancing the tidiness and refinement of any environment. TOP 3 FEATURES OF THE ELITE TUO

A non-smart trainer will give you an adjustment knob to up or reduce the resistance yourself. But a smart trainer will vary resistance automatically, which opens up a much more interesting experience when you link your trainer up to Zwift, Wahoo X or any one of a number of indoor training apps. Fifth, how do you move it around? This might sound silly – but if it’s a heavier trainer (which is most mid-range and above trainers), then is there some sort of handle to move the darn thing around? Most of these trainers come in at nearly 50 pounds (about 23KG) – so they’re beastly. Hence why I use US pricing as the baseline. As always, situations might vary that make it a better deal. Tuo sends Power, Speed, and Cadence data, and can be managed via the My E-Training software (12-month free subscription) or other indoor cycling services (which usually require a paid subscription) such as Zwift, TrainerRoad, The Sufferfest, Bikevo, Kinomap, and many more. 5. COMPATIBILITYOnce I installed the alloy resistance unit to the frame (and after fighting with the screws and washers for a bit), I installed my bike. At first, I installed my ‘cross bike on the unit with a smooth 35mm tire, hoping to take advantage of the ability to keep my training wheelset on. When trying to engage the resistance roller, I noticed that the tire was too big for the default “Road Channel” (the one closer to the front of the bike), and I had to switch to the secondary “MTB Channel.” After taking the unit apart again and reinstalling the resistance unit, I installed my bike. At this point, I noticed that the tire was not engaging properly on the roller. This time the wheel was too far from the roller and slipping at the tightest setting of the resistance knob.
