About this deal

Optiva 5 was clearly a big favourite amongst many decorators but it seems their recent batch isn’t up to standard. It’s very possible that they’ll tweak the formula in the coming weeks, however.

In the past, Crown Stain Resistant Clean Extreme Matt has been poor opacity with white. However, Crown identified the problem and improved the formula to compensate. This covered a base white in two coats of Clean Extreme, which is impressive for a durable matt. The paint flowed well and didn’t pull, but I always cut it in and go around with a 4 inch paint roller. In terms of application, it goes on very nicely and has decent enough coverage so a drop of paint goes a long way. It is a pricey product and unless you were going to be painting large areas, you might be better off giving this a miss as smaller quantities are simply too expensive. Yes, Crown Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt is suitable for use in kitchens and bathrooms due to its washable and durable properties. Can I paint over stains or marks on the wall with Crown Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt?Crown Trade Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt may be applied by brush, good quality medium pile roller or airless spray. OK, this one is a little bit outside my experience, as almost all of my work as a Decorator is domestic, so I’ve never been asked to spec an anti-bacterial paint. These products are ideal in hospitals, doctor’s surgeries, possibly dentists or vet centres, etc. Recommended usage: Crown Trade Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt is well-suited for high-traffic, indoor areas such as hallways and interior walls. With 35% of the vote share from the 136 participants in our poll, Johnstone’s Acrylic Durable Matt is a clear winner, getting almost twice as many votes as 2nd place. To be honest, this doesn’t totally surprise me.

Crown Trade Clean Extreme Scrubbable Matt - offers a finish that is 100% more stain resistant compared to conventional Crown Trade matt vinyl emulsion . It has superior cleaning capabilities which do not compromise the integrity or finished appearance of the paint film. Dulux’s Diamond Matt is one of the best washable matt paints on the market and is perfect for any DIYer. It’s also an incredibly versatile paint. It is suitable for use anywhere around the home and due to its remarkable durability, it can withstand many washes as well as withstand the environmental demands of kitchens and bathrooms.

PaintWell increased its Industrial Paints offering with the acquisition of Promain UK Limited, the preferred UK distributor for many of the world’s leading paint and surface coatings manufacturers. It’s very possible that respondents to our poll hadn’t used the latest iteration of the Optiva 5 so it’s tough to say if the Optiva 5 deserves its place on this list. We asked AS Decorating for some more specifics on whether they’ve noticed a change. Here’s what they had to say: So why do professional painters opt for a trade paint like Crown Clean Extreme over ‘washable’ retail paints? Well, you will reduce overall maintenance costs in labour and material due to the longevity and prolonged aesthetics of the paint over a longer period. So whilst the initial cost of a paint like Crown Clean Extreme might seem high, overall it will provide you with more value over the long run.

Cleaning : A small residue of colour may be wiped away when the painted surface is first cleaned. This is entirely normal and in no way compromises the integrity or finished appearance of the paint film. Marks on the painted surface can be wiped away with a damp cloth. Crown Trade vinyl matt represents great value for money, which echoes Crown Trade as a whole. You will get a good finish with this paint and the price is very attractive. However, you will need to be careful not to let it drag on application, and your finished walls can scuff easily. You wouldn’t use Crown Trade vinyl matt in rooms with high traffic, or in homes with pets and small children. The new baller in town is the Leyland hard-wearing matt. I’ve been using it for the past few weeks and it’s excellent. Excellent finish and is an even better white than Tikkurila. I really can’t tell the difference between this gear and Johnstone’s matt apart from the price. What’s the Difference Between the Best Washable Matt Paint and Regular Matt? The viscosity is just right too, so no need to water the paint down. I did a big hall, stairs and landing, using only 5L of Crown Clean Extreme to double coat the walls, so one tin goes a long way.Optiva 3 is great paint. I’ve been using it solidly now for about 2 years and used Optiva 5 before that. It’s very durable too. Available online, you can apply Clean Extreme via brush and roller, or airless sprayer. Touch dry in 1 – 2 hours, the recoat time is more like 3 – 4 hours, but this depends heavily on conditions. Bare plaster should be primed using a heavily diluted coat of Clean Extreme Matt to seal the surface, however a lot of decorators I know still use contract matt to prime bare plaster.
