About this deal

The screwdriver was given a rest once more in series 9, only appearing in The Magician's Apprentice, and a new version was introduced in the last episode Hell Bent.

If it receives no IR signal after five seconds, it will stop waiting for the IR code, the green tip will turn off and a gesture will have to be performed to make the Sonic ready to receive an IR code again. These molds were given to the show for use in Series 2, however, they never used them in Series 2 or 3, but they were used to make stunt props during Series 4.

A toy of the Eleventh Doctor's version was seen in "Light Echoes", an edition of "The Sky at Night" broadcast on BBC4 on Wednesday 5th October 2010. Flip open the cap at the end of the Screwdriver to reveal an additional button that activates the light and sound effects when it is in full extension OPEN mode. In a special reveal clip, it was shown that this new sonic screwdriver has a similar look and feel to David Tennant’s first one, glowing blue at the end with a mainly grey and black handle. The Eleventh Doctor used it in this manner to help River Song defeat a group of Silents, defeating at least two of them. If the Sonic misinterprets a gesture, hold the device steady for a few seconds then repeat the gesture taking care to use short, accurate, positive movements. When the Doctor was stuck in 1972, the screwdriver "ran out of juice" and the Doctor was unable to charge it because he was without his TARDIS.

The Fourth Doctor’s sonic screwdriver became the archetype for so many others, as it was the first to feature the classic silver handle with the red ring emitter on top.TV: Carnival of Monsters) However, the Fourth Doctor later modified it to also work on physical ones as well. Extending the Sonic reduces its remote control performance in terms of both distance and control angle. The Tenth Doctor had this screwdriver on his person during his regeneration, but it was damaged repeatedly afterwards, leading to many malfunctions. TV: The Big Bang) The Doctor would also use it to scan for information on computers and database systems. TV: The Sound of Drums) It could also be used to fix hairstyles in place, ( PROSE: Rose and the Snow Window) prevent Mirrorlings from emerging ( COMIC: Mirror Image) and illuminate people.Bluffing a wooden Cyberman into thinking that he sent a signal to its flamethrower so it would reverse its direction as soon as it tried to fire.
