About this deal

Wet dough can be removed with a soft brush under running water, or the pin can be set aside until the dough dries out so it’s easier to brush away. Rolling is easy and once you start to roll from the correct dial position the dough really does end up the same thickness all over from end to end from the thinnest setting to the thickest. It includes five sets of removable, colour-coded rings that allow you to raise the rolling surface to 2mm (1/16”), 4mm (1/6”), 6mm (1/4”), 8mm (5/16”) or 10mm (3/8”). Rolling width is limited to the width of the pin (about 25cm) so it’s not good for larger circles of sugarpaste and is more suited to biscuits doughs and pastry. This one is a narrow baguette-shaped wooden pin and we are delighted to note that the wood used is from well-managed forests.

Tala designed this French rolling pin in collaboration with renowned baker Richard Bertinet of The Bertinet Bakery in Bath, so there's true baking expertise behind the design. It may not be reproduced in any way whatsoever without Ocado Limited's prior consent, nor without due acknowledgement. We judged whether extra features, such as adjustable rings or flour shakers, worked well and were valuable inclusions. It comes with four sets of removable discs that raise the rolling surface by different amounts, to create exactly the required pastry thickness: either 2 mm, 4 mm, 6 mm or 10 mm (1/16, 1/6, 1/4 and 3/8 inches). The range of materials and styles are designed for different kitchen tasks, so it's important to consider what you will be cooking and baking the most. Specialist rolling pins: Embossed rolling pins are usually wooden and engraved with charming decorative patterns for creating fun cookies and pastries.

Faberware Classic Wood Rolling Pin: This rolling pin was previously included in our round-up, but after testing it out first-hand, we found that the construction wasn't as sturdy as we thought it would be.Because I can unscrew the handles of the Joseph Joseph rolling pin, cleaning off sticky dough isn't a problem. Don’t even get me started on cookie slats and cookie dough rolling frames (and yes I have all of the above! Joseph Joseph presents their Precisionpin adjustable rolling pin with ergonomic handles in multi-colours. To cut down on the amount of sticking, we'd suggest generously flouring both the rolling pin and the dough you're rolling out.

For bakers who like to be precise, but who might not be the best at eyeballing how wide or thick their dough is, the Joseph Joseph Adjustable Rolling Pin is the ideal solution. A little bit of unevenness and imperfection is part of the charm of a homemade treat, but it can also cause things to burn or not cook evenly, which is not charming. When filled with water of the right temperature, the rolling pin can be used to quickly roll out dough and fondants into perfect sheets; dough does not stick to the surface of the rolling pin. This extra-long Sous Chef 50cm Italian wooden rolling pin tapers ever so gently at each end, but is still thick in the middle and works like any regular wooden rolling pin.Since there are no moving parts and no seams or nooks that can collect flour or dough, it's easier to clean. These are suitable for both shortcrust and puff pastries, but are not as effective on cookie dough (where more pressure may be required). Stainless steel and silicone: Like marble but without the weight, stainless steel can be cooled down further to keep pastry cool. First, unlike wood, a marble pin can be chilled in the fridge or freezer, which is ideal for working with temperature-sensitive laminated doughs like puff pastry or pie crust. Twin brothers Antony and Richard Joseph grew up in a family manufacturing business and were always fascinated by design, engineering and invention.
