About this deal

This truly uplifting masterpiece written by Carl Sagan should be taught to all children in school as one of humankind's finest literary works. The episode ends with speculation on alien intelligence and the information conveyed on the Voyager Golden Record.

He appeared on many television programs, wrote a regular column for Parade, and worked to continually advance the popularity of the science genre. Carl does a very good job in providing explanations on the subject matter in a way that is generally easily understood, although for some of the more advanced concepts you will need to concentrate and have a presence of mind. Owing to its bestselling companion book and soundtrack album using the title, Cosmos, the series is widely known by this title, with the subtitle omitted from home video packaging. Some 26 years ago (1980) these programmes were relatively rare and a classic 13 one hour episode science programme entitled the Cosmos was presented as a personal view by one Carl Sagan ( sometime participant of various NASA space programmes and cosmological investigations then Director of Planetary studies at Cornell University) .Carl Sagan teaches students in a classroom in his childhood neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, which leads into a history of the different mythologies about stars and the gradual revelation of their true nature. I grew up watching LeVar Burton on TNG and Reading Raonbow, so saying his narration was nostalgic is a bit of an understatement. However, the message is very clear: the methods developed by science are the only way to understand the cosmos. He discusses the very different meetings of the Tlingit people and explorer Jean-François de La Pérouse with the destruction of the Aztecs by Spanish conquistadors, the looming threat of nuclear warfare, and the threats shown by the destruction of the Library of Alexandria and the murder of Hypatia.

Note there has been a recent re casting of the original series by Neil de Grasse Tyson ( written in conjunction with Carl Sagan’s widow) – also available on DVD and Blu Ray.

Their voice-acting muddles the message, slows down the reading, and I feel less connected to Carls message as a consequence. Cosmos is a popular science book written by astronomer and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Carl Sagan. Episodes began airing March 9, 2014 [12] on the Fox Network and the next day on National Geographic Channel.
