About this deal

Following on from Roman Candle, Smith's startling debut, Elliott Smith is another work of lone ambition. There are five live tracks, each one recorded at the Yo Yo A Go Go Festival in Olympia WA in 1997, and these demonstrate what a capable, and increasingly confident live performer he had become. Although that's a word which has been overused so much, especially in recent times that it has become almost cringe-worthy, don't cringe when you hear it said of Elliott, because he really does merit such a title. All image and audio content is used by permission of the copyright holders or their agents, and/or according to fair dealing as per the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. Secondary copies sent out will be opened and inspected before being re-shipped to guarantee a non defective replacement.

The gently insinuating despair of Smith's work communicates volumes about the heartbreak and alienation that is the bane of 20th century boys with too much time on their hands. The result is this remaster of the original plus a bonus disc of unreleased live tracks, three unreleased songs and a number of curiosities.Indeed, some will complain that the ramshackle charm and the little mistakes in the originals have been ironed out. The 20th anniversary edition of Elliott Smith's beloved third album Either / Or, newly remastered for this release. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Although Elliott's music was always largely on the (wonderfully) depressing scale, 'Either/Or', though only occasionally, actually has it's more upbeat pop moments, but every track, upbeat or otherwise, is a little work of art.

The previously unreleased 'I Figured You Out', is a great pop-rock track, and comes after 'I Don't Think I'm Ever Gonna Figure It Out', a catchy little tune which was originally issued as a B side, and really demonstrates the man's talents at picking away at a guitar. Ranking as one of the best albums of the 1990s, and always (if you care for such things) mentioned within lists of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time by the likes of Rolling Stone, NME etc. Ci sarebbe carattere e integrità artistica da vendere a livello universale e ne rimarrebbero comunque scorte in abbondanza! With distinct production, instrumentation, and vocals, the recordings found on Alternate Versions offer a new perspective on one of Smith’s most highly acclaimed albums, and separate them from the original cuts found on Either/Or.The final chapter of his first period as a solo artist, Either/Or remains a cornerstone of folk/pop melancholia with aftershocks felt to this day. The constant push and pull between the dissonant and melodic, dealing with today's disappointment and loneliness knowing that things could change tomorrow.

When I first heard his music, I had to get past his soft vocal style, which could be mistaken for "weak" or "wimpy", but in the end, it's perfect for letting the songs really shine on their own. The additional content features five live multi-track recordings from the Yo Yo A Go Go Festival in Olympia WA in 1997, as well as three previously unreleased studio recordings and one b-side gem. The album is nonetheless a classic containing three songs that were used in the film "Good Will Hunting".It appears that 20 years has past since the late Steven Elliott Smith recorded his greatest album "Either/Or". Often cited as his finest work, virtually every track is a classic in its own right, with the likes of Between the Bars, Angeles and Say Yes proving particular fan favourites. Of the new content, the five live tracks recorded at the Yo Yo A Go Go Festival in Olympia, Washington in 1997 are of pristine quality with the harrowing "Some Song" especially powerful.

Every record is shipped in original factory-applied shrink wrap and has never been touched by human hands. His third studio album, released in 1997 is a very strong contender for the title his greatest, and certainly in my own top 40 releases of all-time. To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Elliott Smith’s best-selling and greatly beloved album, Either/Or, Kill Rock Stars proudly presents Either/Or: Expanded Edition. Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary. Smith's third album, Either/Or, was produced by himself, Tom Rothrock and Rob Schnapf and released February 25, 1997.Other highlights are the breezy pop of Ballad Of Big Nothing ("All spit and spite/you're up all night and down every day"), the druggy drawl of Punch and Judy ("I used to like it here/now it just bums me out to remember") and the self-loathing of Rose Parade ("I'd say it's a sight that's quite worth seeing/it's just that everyone's interest is stronger than mine/and when they clean the streets/I'll be the only shit that's left behind).
