About this deal

Over a plate of something so comforting you could curl up in it, Grace and Nadiya get down to brass tacks. This week, he tells Grace about his passion for TV dinners, his rivalry with Louis Theroux and his life as a failed band manager.

It is all the things the title promises – delectable, delightful, delicious – and, to my taste, it’s at its best in those devastating slithers of grief and love which end each chapter. Between 2003-2010, Dent published eleven young adult novels, and was also a presenter on BBC2's The Culture Show, and a magazine and newspaper journalist, including a TV column for the Guardian.

Jaime Winstone is Grace’s guest this week, coming round for a chat and a hearty portion of her ultimate comfort snack. She regularly appears on MasterChef UK and she presents Best of Britain by the Sea with Ainsley Harriott. She tells Grace about her lifelong love of stodgy food, questionable sandwiches and life with her husband, Paul. Now that Dent makes her living as a restaurant critic and television personality, firmly ensconced in the London liberal elite, all this might feel a bit put on, except that her affection is tangible, her humour tweezer-sharp and the writing as strong as a Christmas stilton. Grace’s guest on the season finale of Comfort Eating is the Dragons’ Den star and business owner Deborah Meaden.

The foods we turn to behind closed doors are deeply personal, steeped in nostalgia and topped with a healthy dollop of guilty pleasure. She also shares some of the recipes from the celebrities who have hared their comfort foods on her podcast. After treating Grace to a two-course surprise snack, Tamsin talks about growing up with an older dad, her secret Friday Night Dinner food strategies and the strange moments of joy to be found within grief. Exploring her go-to comfort foods through a series of joyous encounters, Grace reflects on the memories they uncover and pays tribute to her parents, the people who taught her what comfort eating truly means.

Dent talks about all the "naughty" foods in detail and reveals her own comfort food that she turns to and the memories it brings back for her.In episode three of Comfort Eating with Grace Dent, Rafe joins Grace for a sit down over his favourite sofa snack.
