About this deal

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. In this blog post, I will explain the significant design changes and my experiences with Advantage360.

If you are using the keyboard with the backlighting on (a major power drain) the batteries should last for a full work day or two. Fingers are placed in a neutral, relaxed position to reduce over-extension and thumb clusters are used to access frequently used keys. To Kinesis’s credit, their Advantage keyboards have always been laid out in ortholinear—essentially, a grid—fashion, and their products have had the Dvorak layout as an alternative to QWERTY. I really, really appreciate that and you can even turn them off in the firmware if you don’t like them. They do also offer a base Advantage 360 that is wired and the two pieces are connected with a usb-c cable. For example even the distance of my laptop stand makes a huge difference because it affects how far my keyboard can be from my torso, hence whether where my arms rest on the table.

The only thing that does it decently is my speaker, but for keyboard and mouse I have a KVM switch (that tries to do something smart with the keyboard that leads to dropped keys, which is also mega annoying). I'm a Model 01 user since 2017 and currently typing this on a Model 100, resting my palms on the wood). Beyond the Advantage360, there are the aforementioned Model 100 and Defy as other commercial products, but also open source builds like the Lily58 and Corne keyboards which open up all sorts of tinkering possibilities. Yes, all of this is in service of making the act of pressing down on a couple of buttons feel a bit more pleasant; it makes about as much sense as, say, making a bunch of miniature gears turn to tell time imperfectly. My reasons for getting HHKB though include sweaty palms, for which very few good keyboards exist that offer relative spill-proofness.

The review is extensive; it would be easy to lose the forest for the trees, in terms of features and gestalt. The way many of these keyboards work with layering makes it a functional requirement rather than a choice. It also leads you to use a UI, which you need to authorize with your GitHub repo so that the UI can push and commit your changes.Equip your gaming workstation with innovative ergonomic tools and accessories for a responsive, productive and comfortable gaming experience, while reducing RSI.

As powerful as the ZMK software is, and it is very powerful, it’s not accessible to the average Joe.The style of keyboard makes it hard to have a lot depth on the keyboard so it’s safer to just cut the row off now and use layers.
