About this deal

Believing themselves unintentional killers, the two flee in Gladys's old wreck of a car, commencing a journey of comedic misunderstandings in which these two very different ladies embark on a shared voyage of self-discovery. Unfortunately, towards the end the dialogue gets all 'meaningful' in a manner more typical of American TV scripts. If you enjoy the genre of the 'classic' British comedy that this movie definitely belongs to, you won't be disappointed. After the start, Margery and Gladys confront in Margery's house and accidentally kill him, the plot follows a roller coaster of twists and turns to keep you guessing to the end.

Penelope is truly a British treasure and should be given Damehood for her contributions to television comedy. Read all Haughty, recently-widowed Margery Heywood and her cleaner Gladys Gladwell go on the run after mistakenly believing that they have killed a teenage burglar, holding up a post office for Gladys' money, and giving petty crook Terry Mason a lift, they are pursued by the police.Margery (Penelope Keith) and Gladys (June Brown), the housekeeper, are involved in a crime spree in the aftermath of an attempted burglary at Margery's house in middle class UK suburbia. Haughty, recently-widowed Margery Heywood and her cleaner Gladys Gladwell go on the run after mistakenly believing that they have killed a teenage burglar, holding up a post office for Gladys' money, and giving petty crook Terry Mason a lift, they are pursued by the police.

Ms Keith plays Margery, a tetchy suburban matron -- recently widowed -- who attends a Neighbourhood Watch meeting that leaves her paranoid about burglars. A further shocking revelation takes the pair to Blackpool where another truth is revealed, leading to a genuine friendship and an end to their troubles. There are some bizarre incidents, as the two women must commit other crimes to obtain funds and medications. The pairing of Penelope Keith and June Brown seemed a bit strange to me, but as there seemed to be nothing else on that night, I watched this, and I'm glad I did.

The two women are an odd couple with (they think) little in common, until an intruder enters Margery's house and she coshes him (from behind) with her Waterford crystal vase. Aside from hiding from the police, they have to deal with Brown's diabetes and the fact they left the house without any money or credit cards. When wealthy, recently-widowed suburban housewife, Margery (PENELOPE KEITH), and her rough diamond of a cleaner, Gladys (JUNE BROWN), disturb a house burglar, they knock him unconscious, panic and leave him for dead, fleeing in the cleaners wrecked old car. Although Penelope Keith mentions "the George Formbys," his soundtracks are not used and he gets no screen credit. When a driven doctor doesn't get the prestigious position she planned for, she unexpectedly finds herself moving to a remote Alaskan town.Because the intruder was attacked from behind, a controversial court decision found Martin guilty of homicide; he served 18 months in prison before the conviction was changed to manslaughter and he was released with time served. In Gladys's car, the two women decide to try to reach Margery's son Graham in Milton Keynes, hoping he'll give them shelter and money, but the trip turns into a comedy of disasters.

Luna is a former dancer, who left that dream behind for a grounded life managing her familyâ€s construction business and gets the opportunity to transform a gymnasium into a studio for aerials. As the women race across the countryside in a beat-up Fiesta, they each learn a whole lot about each other, even though Brown has been Keith's cleaning lady for decades. Britain has had a long history of mainly 'gentle' if somewhat bawdy comedies committed to celluloid. Margery and Gladys' is (among other things) an intentional parody of 'Thelma and Louise', with two unlikely matrons as female outlaws.
