About this deal

The novel has been adapted into animation several times, including episodes 25 and 26 of the 1990 television series Moomin, and episodes 23, 24, and 25 of the 2019 television series Moominvalley. In Moominpappa at Sea they arrive at an island that proves as mysterious and wild as even Moominpappa had hoped. In fact, he is starting to see the world as more than black and white, as he comes to understand the threatening but not really evil Groke. This is about 42 kilometres (26 mi) east of Helsinki, and 11 kilometres (7 mi) south of the coast of Finland; though no island exists there in real life. But how is Moominmamma to grow her flowers and what strange fate befell the last keeper of the lighthouse?

There are the trees that seem so frightened they move of their own accord and a threat from home, the mournful Groke, who freezes everything in her path. Meanwhile, Moominmamma grows more and more melancholy as her dream of planting a garden never works out and her longing for home grows stronger. The book is notable for its introspective and contemplative tone, which is in contrast to the other books found within the Moomin series. There was maybe one mention of the friends back home, but otherwise it was like these friends had been forgotten! However, the Groke, a cold dark figure that longs for light and kills the grass (and any plant) that she sits on, freezes the water all around her and floats after them. Aquí empieza el inicio del final de la historia de los Moomin en Moominvalley, por lo tanto te deja una sensación de tristeza. Not for the first time in the series, this book revolves around the sea, the author seems slightly obsessed with it. As you might have guessed, I've never been one to feel children's books couldn't be enjoyed outside their intended demographic.

I suspect this lost something in the translation, some parts didn't read easily but the ideas and the beautiful illustrations more than made up for it. When Moominmamma had cleared away, she put the hurricane lamp on the table and said"I remember hearing once that some lighthouses use gas.

While there is no war and almost no violence in them I think that they are a sort of antidote to the inhumanity of that conflict. The Moomintroll books are highly effective at entertaining children and furthermore are immensely gentle and charming works. This was an enjoyable piece of escapism, anyone who has longed to get away from everyday life and challenge themselves to live on an island will enjoy this story of starting again from scratch. Not once did the family think of Snork or Snorkmaiden when they completely moved with the intention of living on a remote island for the rest of their lives.
