However, in the run-up to the movie coming out I was interested to see what the new digital colouring and over-sized format does to the end-product and I can confirm that this is not the Absolute edition, it is the Definitive version. With a powerful storyline masterfully told by comics supremo Alan Moore and beautifully rendered artwork by the talented Dave Gibbons - this is the one that started it all and is definitely not one to miss! Rorschach, a half-psychotic vigilante, must convince his ex team-mates, now middle-aged and retired, that he has uncovered a plot to murder the remaining superheroes - along with millions of innocent civilians. Additionally, this grand tome will include 48 pages of supplemental material produced exclusively for the Graphitti Designs Watchmen hardcover edition and not seen since their original publication. All the details are extremely clear (which is also helped by the larger format) it makes the first colour job look very murky and dark in comparison.

Along the way, the concept of the superhero is dissected as an unknown assassin stalks the former heroes. For me though, the most interesting element of this package is not the graphic novel itself (I've read it an awful lot, starting with the original twelve comics. The sheer quality of this edition absolutely shines out, and here we have a story and artwork that deserve this sort of treatment. Having read the normal trade paperback a good while ago, I wasn't sure if this Absolute Edition would have the same impact on me. This Absolute edition features remastered line art and coloring overseen by artists Dave Gibbons and John Higgins, script pages, the original series proposal, character designs, promotional art, and tons of other extras.So, you've read Watchmen, you loved it, you obsessed over it, you've been kicked out of civilized gatherings when you refused to stop waving it in front of people's faces, telling them it was "The Most Important Comic Ever Written EVER! This book is what comics are all about and show how the product has grown in maturity with its readers. hardcover collection, packaged inside a beautifully designed slipcase, will be the cornerstone of any serious comic book collection. Each panel has now been enlarged so the obsessive fan can now pick out every single embedded smiley face in the book, and see every speck of filth and street detritus on Rorschach's trenchcoat.
