With the travel cot weighing in at under 3kgs, you can take it on a plane as hand luggage (if you put the cot poles in your main luggage) and the cot is also suitable from birth. Once this is done, you then need to need to attach the pole clips to the respective poles, unzip the side entry door, fold the mattress out and place it inside. The added bonus, in my mind, and what made it usable for different ages, was that there are two different options for how you unzip the cot.
Once inserted, the ends of the poles are fixed in each of the four corners, causing the poles to bend and create the tent shape. Yes, there are four tether straps on the corners of the cot, which I used around the legs of a bed to keep the cot secure. The poles come folded into sections but, once put together, are fairly lengthy which means that you'll definitely need some room in the living room or garden for assembly. As mentioned before, assembly is quick and easy, and there is a fairly thick, and soft mattress which is very comfortable for all age groups. Our kids are very fair, and we spend a lot of time outdoors – at the beach, on the side of football pitches and more – so some kind of sunshade was going to be a good option for us.
If it was shaped like most cots on the market then, admittedly, it wouldn’t be as easy to pack down and carry around.Youngest is now 14 months and when we went camping last bank holiday, we didn't bother with the cots and just put her on a camping mattress - slept fine. She did, however, find it easy to remove the mattress sheet straight away if there were spillages to reduce the risk of any stains directly on the mattress, which would be more difficult to clean. She slept incredibly well on it, and another time I would probably leave the mattress behind and just take the sheepskin!
