About this deal

Your go-to Christmas pudding wine here is a fortified wine such as a Port or a Pedro Ximinéz Sherry. Enjoyed at room temperature or gently heated, it is the perfect accompaniment to cold nights and festive gatherings. Lyme Bay Winery is located in Devon’s beautiful Axe Valley and it is here that they combine their knowledge and love of flavours and ingredients to craft their award-winning drinks.

So for an apple crumble you could probably choose a wine with a Society sweetness rating of 7, but with a sticky toffee pudding, go all in for a super-sweet wine which will match up to the sweetness of the toffee; a wine with a sweetness rating of 9 or thereabouts. There are no hard and fast rules for wine at this time of year as we tend to eat such a wide range of foods that it is difficult to find wines to complement all of the different flavours. The dried apricot, honey and sweet biscuit flavours of botrytis-affected Sémillon make it a sublime match for many cakes and desserts.Any instances of goods being delivered below expectations, such as broken bottles, should be reported immediately on arrival but within 7 days, upon which we will issue a refund for the damaged bottles. By adding a teaspoon of sugar every couple of days and feeding the yeast, the wine will make the most of the high alcohol wine yeast that you have used, resulting in a wine that has more bang than the combined Christmas crackers on your festive table. Trifle and other creamy and fruity desserts will also benefit from a sweet sparkling Moscato d’Asti because whilst the wine is sweet it also has mouth-watering acidity which cuts through the rich cream and custard and complements the fruit.

The Hans Lang Hattenheim Hassel Riesling Beerenauslese is a lovely bottle to try – and, like Tokaji, it goes rather nicely with marzipan too. No matter what the occasion there is always a dessert wine to match, and finding your perfect combination is all part of the fun. Lyme Bay Christmas Pudding Wine has a delicious warming taste that embodies the character of a classic Christmas Pudding. A particularly fine Sparkling, beautifully clear liquid with very smooth mousse and a zesty lemon and cooked apple flavour.Which of these you choose is a matter of personal preference, whether you prefer the fruity ruby or the nutty tawny.

If you bottle before it has finished fermenting then it can explode in the bottles, if you are new to winemaking I would suggest you use a stabiliser which will kill off any active yeast. Lyme Bay Winery is the home of LBW Drinks, a small dedicated drinks company who are passionate about producing delicious and award winning English wine, fruit wine, cider, mead, liqueurs and spirits. Luscious and honeyed yet crisp, it’s perfectly balanced and a cracking pairing for fruity cheesecakes and soufflés. A key rule when pairing wine with specific tastes is to pair sweet wine with sweet food – but the rule only works if the intensity of sweetness in each component is equal. They tend to combine fresh and fruity flavours with warm spices, chocolate and raisins which complement Christmas Pudding.I did a christmas cake brandy (or "spirit of christmas") - and you get a pretty fine cake as well as a liqueur if you follow the recipe all the way through!

Or, for something completely different, try L’Occhiolino, a unique sparkling Italian red wine with delicate bubbles and juicy red berry notes.

If you are looking for an alternative to the standard mulled wine then I urge you to give this one a go. Enjoy with a glass of L’Epiphanie de Sauternes 2019 (from one of Bordeaux’s prestigious First Growth châteaux) and you’ll soon discover why it’s such a classic pairing. Please check the tracking first, as they may provide an explanation but we welcome the opportunity to nip issues in the bud. Fortified wines also work a treat as they have enough oomph to stand up to the richness of either chocolate or Christmas pudding – or both if you really want to push the boat out. So, pour a glass to sip alongside a slice of traditional German Christmas Stollen or marzipan-coated Christmas Cake.
