Perhaps the most gleaming commendation for this book is that my wife stayed up late, and read this over two days. The Advantage takes some of the key parts of this and other books by the author however I like being able to read/listen to both. In his book, Death by Meeting, Patrick Lencioni provides simple and powerful tips to solve the problem of unproductive meetings by introducing the reader to a blueprint for success. The framework is helpful and a good reminder though to step up one’s leadership game to keep it up to date and relevant. The idea of a CEO always worrying about what everyone thinks and getting tied in knots trying to keep everyone happy.Moreover, if your extracurricular activities are related to the products that your business markets, that’s a bonus since you can offer views from a consumer’s perspective. This book is a great sequel to 5 dysfunctions of a team going deeper into how to create more engaging meetings that have everyone excited about the company.
We make them dull because we eliminate the one element that makes any human activity interesting: conflict. After 4 hours of listening, this could’ve been a blogpost on the 2 commonly-missing essential elements of meetings and the 4 types of meetings to solve them.Purpose is to help team members to avoid confusion about how priorities are translated into action on a regular basis. This often requires a change of scenery so that executives can interact with one another on a more personal level and remind themselves of their collective commitments to the team.
