About this deal

Dialogue and Invention in the Book of the Duchess (philosophical interpretation of Geoffrey Chaucer's work) (Critical Essay). It takes the intimidation out of writing a novel and leaves only the excitement of seeing a dream realized.

Then she receives a rare invitation to a dinner party and, taking advantage of the opportunity, uses her wit and charm to endear herself to members of high society. Der beliebte britische Sportprinz, der für die geschiedene Amerikanerin den Thron aufgab und ihre Geschichte so unsterblich machte. Although Mrs Simpson had been held up as a ‘scarlet woman’ who tempted Britain’s king away from the throne, Holden takes a new stance, portraying her as an innocent, slightly naive woman who was out of her depth in aristocratic society. When 34-year-old Wallis Simpson arrives in London with her new husband, Ernest, from New York, she is eager to start a new life after a tricky few years, including a divorce from her abusive first husband. One of the delights of historical fiction is the what-if factor, and Holden poses a whopper: What if Edward never really wanted to be king and pursued Wallis, whom he knew he couldn’t marry as monarch, to avoid the throne We’ll never know, but fans of biographical fiction and British royalty will thoroughly enjoy this sparkling tale of love and loss.

The carriers of the truth, those who were aware of how bleak the future of the world was…… They remembered almost everything. In the perilous world of kings and queens, one woman matches ambition with loyalty and ruthless intrigue with all-consuming passion in this gripping historical fiction novel. I took a bit of a break from all my Regency romances this fall in favor of some spooky books for September and October!I've always been fascinated by Wallis Simpson and this novel gives us a different interpretation of her personality and that of the Prince of Wales. Valerie found herself getting involved with not one, not two, not three, but four handsome beastmen in this lifetime! At eighteen, Angelique has a keen mind, remarkable beauty and an envelope of money her late father pressed upon her. Misfortune followed them to their lives,Dying from a miserable death, one of them was given a second chance to live. Finally, she can leave behind her old life in the United States, along with the memories of her doomed first marriage.

I have read several books about Wallis Simpson and I get that that author wanted to provide a different Wallis, but it was really too one sided to me. The story is quite funny in a way due to the misunderstandings of the FL, though I am not aware wether the ML is a good man but I am hoping that he is, because of the tags. Many admire her – and none more so, it appears, than Cora herself, who finds that even Austen's own spoiled heroine, Emma Woodhouse (in a gently pleasing metatextual touch, Goodwin has Cora reading Emma just before her ball begins), pales before her. Those who enjoy biographical fiction and books relating to British royalty, will find a great deal to savor in this new novel of The Duchess of Windsor.Whoever he was, he wasn’t at all like Harry: Trevelyan was the most exasperating, arrogant, know-it-all of a man Claire had ever met. It is full of sumptuous descriptions of the lavish parties Wallis attends and unforgettable characters like the prince’s self-centered and fabulous former lover, Thelma Morgan. When widow Magnolia De Solange was gravely wounded and saved by the Duke of Salicera, she could not help but imagine what a life of comfort and safety would mean for her and her son. Even if their relationship is contractual he should at least consider the other person's opinion, duh.
