The new style includes a familiar layout of controls similar to how you would find them on the club-standard CDJ and DJM setups allowing for intuitive performances. The jog wheel is divided into 6 segments and you can grab the track playing, or a sample if preferred, and then move the platter backwards and forwards in time for instant scratch patterns. Increase the influence of the effect by simply turning the knob — depending on the preset pattern you’ve chosen, the combination of different effects and samples is triggered at the same time. Adding flare to sets and mixing between genres, no matter what the key or BPM of the next track is, can be flawless thanks to the new Merge FX feature.

You can effortlessly change from hip-hop to house, from rock to EDM, or between any other styles you want to play. One great aspect of the Merge FX is that they allow for very complex FX chains, which would usually require more than two hands. In addition to the master output there is also a connection for a booth monitor – this is another nod towards the professional kit the unit is modelled on. Turn on Jog Cutter and simply move the jog wheel to apply a professional-sounding scratch effect to the last Hot Cue or playback position you used on that deck. Scratching and pitch bending feels natural, and the inclusion of on jog display ensures vital information can be seen at a glance.The GT also introduces support for VirtualDJ software in addition to Rekordbox and Serato (VirtualDJ support can be added to the original FLX6 via a free firmware update).

With a built-in sound card, all you need to do is connect the DDJ-FLX6-GT via USB cable to a laptop that’s running a compatible software and you can start DJing right away. In total, if rekordbox is the selected music software management system then there are eight Merge FX pattern presets (this reduces to four if Serato DJ Pro is in use), and everything is customisable. While there’s no jog wheel adjustment, like that offered by the DDJ-800 and DDJ-1000, the tension setting feels just right – especially if you’re upgrading from the smaller DDJ controllers. The controller allows the DJ creative freedom when selecting and mixing tracks, and takes away the worry of trying to merge two tracks from different backgrounds together seamlessly.Pitch bending and scratching feels natural thanks to the large jog wheels, which are the same size as those on the flagship CDJ-3000 multi player. The rest of the unit also boasts a sophisticated look, with a brand-new matte gray color across its body. Sample Scratch is a brand-new pad mode in rekordbox which enables you to choose sounds you’ve assigned to the sampler and load them onto the decks.
