A scene recognition mode is also on offer which tries to pick the most appropriate scene mode for the shooting situation. Designed for those who love the great outdoors, the 10 megapixels FinePix Z33WP is a camera that can withstand the elements. Instead of using an F-mode button for accessing shooting-mode-specific settings like some other Fujifilm models, all shooting options are reached with a press of the Menu/OK button. The Canon D10 is the clear winner in our performance tests: it had better color, lower noise, higher sharpness and a more effective image stabilization system.
Fuji claims a usable distance for this of up to 12 feet, but we didn't find it to be effective to more than 10 feet at most.
Unfortunately neither the Casio Exilim EX-Z33 nor Fujifilm FinePix J30 provides any type of weather sealing in their bodies, so you have to give extra care especially when you are shooting outdoors. On the back of the Fujifilm Z33WP, the rubber-covered button matrix is more beautiful than functional, casting off the standard four-way navigation cluster, forcing the four arrows into its ten-button, two-row matrix. It is waterproof to depths of three meters and the smooth grip shape means it won’t slip out of your hands when you need it most. You should take care when trying on items to ensure that clothing is not stained with fake tan, make-up deodorant etc. It actually does a lot more than trim, though, it allows you to edit the image's brightness, contrast, and color, as well as several other effects.
The center mode uses a small area in the center of the frame to focus on, while the multi mode looks for a high-contrast object near he center of the frame and uses that to focus on. The amount of noise increased as the ISO increased as well, reaching a maximum at the ISO 1600 setting that is significantly higher than most cameras. There is only 1 months difference between EX-Z33 and J30 so we are expecting this to be a fair comparison regarding age and technology level.
At ISO 1,600, color saturation dropped significantly, while detail loss was about the same, but noise was much higher: Even at a 4x6 inch output size, prints from the Z33WP's ISO 1,600 shots were flat and noisy looking; we don't think readers would find them acceptable. Fujifilm’s is the least expensive to date, and although it doesn’t make any claims for being shockproof, as many of its competitors do, the curvy plastic shell seems robust. That in mind the picture quality is good outside and indoor shots are good if you are close enough for the flash to work. A year ago, there were only a couple of manufacturers making waterproof cameras, but now it’s a crowded market. I bought this camera because I wanted a water proof camera for kayak trips; I have a small mount on my boat for this purpose.I don't recommend the camera for any professional pictures however because the camera isn't extremely extremely high quality. Modern graphics etched into the skin just beneath the slight hint of a flash oddly and stylishly proclaim "Fujifilm WP Z," which is not the camera's name. Summer time means visiting the seaside, riverside, or your local pool - these are times for fun in and out of the water.
