If your budget can’t stretch higher up the product range for a Synthe, opting for the Foray is by no means settling for second best. For those not familiar with the Roc Loc 5 system, it provides a lightweight, 'easy to adjust' support skeleton around the back of the head.It is a little heavier than some of its close competitors but this isn’t really noticeable when you’re riding. The above does not apply to bikes, which we have to assemble and inspect before repacking for dispatch. The fusion process allows Giro to sculpt better ventilation systems, so In-mould helmets can be lighter and cooler than traditional helmets. The Giro Foray is the perfect helmet that gives you the ultimate security when you are out on the road. When putting on the medium, it did feel a little snug around the sides of the helmet but not to the point of causing any discomfort and once you have fastened and adjusted the straps and tightened the rear head restraint, it is almost easy to forget you are wearing the helmet. The Roc Loc 5 system is one of our preferred restraint systems when comparing to that of the competition. The Foray MIPS comes with Giro's Roc Loc 5 fit system which features an adjustable headband with a tensioning dial at the back of the helmet.Base in Santa Cruz, California - the company has built a reputation as one of the leading manufactures in the innovation of cycle helmet technology, as they have proven with their highly rated Giro Synthe helmet which they launched mid 2014.

With a similar looking design and similar features as Giro's pricier flagship models, the Foray would make an excellent choice for riders willing to sacrifice only some of the highest-end features for a solid all-around helmet that won't break the bank. It feels the business, it largely looks the business, and it packs the same safety features as the more expensive helmet.

Tipping my head forward to look down just made this worse as the sweat seemed to run out of the front exhaust channel. I have to say that this was NOT the case on every ride and despite the pads being thin, they do not compromise the comfort of the Giro Foray. In addition to external ventilation system, Giro have added channels on the inside of the helmet liner to act as exhausts for releasing the hot air build up inside the helmet. However, this lid comes without some design features found on some of the more expensive models in our lineup, so while our testers were able to dial in a comfortable fit, riders with other head shapes and sizes might not be able to dial it in so perfectly. Pull it out to extend the Roc Loc's cranial coverage but as soon as you put the helmet on it had a tendency to revert back to its lowest setting far too easily.Add to this the fact that my size M Foray weighs in at 271g on the Abbott family’s digital kitchen scales, compared to the 285g of my Synthe, and the positives just keep on coming. It is also very lightweight and has a slim profile, so it's hardly noticeable that you're even wearing it, which is this sign of an ideal helmet. The Giro Foray Mips helmet, on the other hand, could – at a glance – be mistaken for its much more expensive predecessor – the Synthe.
