About this deal

The narrative of "Monkey Puzzle" centers around a young monkey who becomes separated from her mother in the vast and dense jungle. Axel Scheffler is a star illustrator whose instantly recognizable, warm and witty illustrations have achieved worldwide acclaim and numerous awards. The butterfly, though well-intentioned, frequently confuses different animals for the monkey's mother due to its misunderstanding of the descriptions provided by the monkey. I would say this is better for a slightly younger audience - my son loves it from 1 and still loves it at 2.

Monkey Puzzle works really well in a primary-school drama session, with the children miming the various animals. As ever, Julia Donaldson delivers a pacy story which is entertaining and informative with a great twist at the end. This edition features the classic story with a stunning, redesigned cover and beautiful finish, making it a must-have addition to the bookshelves of all Donaldson and Scheffler fans - big and small! Monkey Puzzle is a clever, funny and charming tale from the unparalleled picture book partnership of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffalo. Monkey Puzzle" has gained widespread popularity among young readers and their caregivers due to its engaging storyline, captivating illustrations, and valuable life lessons. I enjoyed drawing all the different kinds of animals and the jungle vegetation - which I kind of made up (unlike Henry Rousseau when he did his jungle paintings, who went to the botanical gardens). A kindly butterfly is keen to help, but they don't seem to be having much luck but they don't seem to be having much luck and keep finding the wrong animals! The book effectively explores themes of identity, family bonds, and the challenges of finding one's way in unfamiliar environments.

I drew lots of monkeys on my sketch book before I decided on the look of the little monkey who lost his mum. Axel is the illustrator of wonderful novelty, gift and poetry books for Macmillan, such as Fish Who Dream of Trees (Two Hoots) and the bestselling The Bedtime Bear , The Tickle Book and Mother Goose's Nursery Rhymes – and of course, he is the illustrator of some of the world's best-loved picture books, including modern classics The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo's Child , which together have sold over 17 million copies worldwide. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I can’t imagine that anyone other than Axel could have given such character and humour to the animals which the butterfly mistakes for the monkey’s mum.

Collaborating with illustrator Axel Scheffler, she has created numerous beloved children's books, including the immensely successful "The Gruffalo" series. It’s is a poem which is particularly important to early development and I think really helps get little ones really into books as they can easily remember how it goes.
