About this deal

That's the lovely life lesson behind this inspiring board book full of pop-ups, pull-the-flaps, and pretty amazing - not to mention surprising - feats of paper engineering. After reading it, have the art teacher demonstrate how she can turn an artwork "mistake" into something beautiful. The copy we have was given to us as a gift and we loved it so much, we bought this one to give as a gift. Kids see firsthand as they go through the book that any smudge, smear or stain can lead to something absolutely marvellous - with a little imagination.

This is definitely a WOW book for me because I was surprised by every page at the way the author and illustrator turned each mistake into something beautiful. The smudge becomes the face of a bunny, a crumpled ball of paper turns into a lamb s fleecy coat celebrate the oops in life. The message of connecting the negatives to the positive, the imagery and the art, vibes with everything my son wants to know about. We aim to support social justices owed to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community by enhancing resources and identifying local strengths to promote successes.

Barney Saltzberg is the author and illustrator of close to 50 books for children and has also recorded four CD’s of music for children. Kids see firsthand as they go through the book that any smudge, smear or stain can lead to something absolutely marvelous – with a little imagination. It's a nice length too - maybe about a 5 minute read but feels substantial so it's brilliant if you want a quick bedtime story, and it's solid enough for it to be safe in the hands of a small toddler.

It would also be a good book to read before an art activity - inspiring kids to have fun with random scraps of paper or artistic "mistakes. It'll definitely be getting the sequel and really hope it's a book that my kids end up reading to their kids. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. A singular work of imagination, creativity, and paper engineering, Beautiful Oops is filled with pop-ups, lift-the-flaps, tears, holes, overlays, bends, smudges, and even an accordion telescope each demonstrating the magical transformation from blunder to wonder. My daughter has been struggling with making mistakes, it’s often the end of the world, but this book shows the opportunities created by little ‘mistakes’.A spill on your clean, white sheet of paper can morph into a wild animal, a tear in your paper can be turned into a roaring alligator mouth. He’s obsessed with it so much so that I’ve bought another copy to give to his grandad so it’s always there and they can read it together. I got this book for my son because he would get so frustrated if he made a mistake: coloring outside the lines, an accidental mark on a drawing, etc. A celebration of creative thinking, Saltzberg's small-format book encourages readers to view mistakes not as failures but opportunities.

Packed with flaps to open and stunning paper-engineering, each page generates a sense of wonder and excitement for the reader, as they uncover each ‘beautiful oops’ created from the mishaps. This book taught me it's good to make mistakes because the smudge of paint that went on my painting turned out to be a better painting then before.

Both of my daughters love to paint and draw, which means our home is filled with watercolor paints, colored pencils, and lots of markers (with a reminder that says “Please Put Caps Back On! Sin embargo, puede no ser muy conveniente para infantes bruscos o de menor edad: tiene partes que se despliegan y otras que sobresalen, fácilmente rompibles. It has lots of brilliant flaps and things that my toddler loves to interact with, for example it shows a bent page corner that has been turned into a penguin, or a rolled up ball of paper that's now a sheep. Really fun idea but not sure of who its audience is meant to be -not sophisticated enough for adults and too many parts to destroy for little ones!

Barney is passionate about working with children, parents, teachers, organizations on the art of making mistakes and finding play and creativity in our everyday lives. This is what my almost-three-year-old toddler said about the book after asking me to read and read it again for about fives times in a row! When I first read this with my daughter (who is a 5-year-old perfectionist) I thought “cute but I doubt it will make a difference. Inspiring and inventive, this interactive board book teaches a valuable lesson: 'When you think you have made a mistake, think of it as an opportunity to make something beautiful! Not just for perfectionists, this book is for anyone who wants to be more creative, more open to possibilities. Barney Saltzberg, the effervescent spirit behind Good Egg, offers a one-of-a-kind interactive book that shows young readers how every mistake is an opportunity to make something beautiful.
