The DALI IO-6 is designed and engineered by the same team and to the same basic principles as any other DALI loudspeaker. Go for days without recharging, and should you run out of power, the IO-6 just keeps on going in the passive "Off" mode, when using the supplied Mini Jack cable. The rattling, closed-mic’d treble sounds at the top of the frequency range are immediate, crisp and never in any danger of becoming too hard – even at considerable volume.

You can see the IO-6 runs right between the Sony and Focal in bass quantity, matching my listening impressions and my preferences. While this isn’t an industry-standard tool and I wouldn’t make comparisons to measurements from other sources, the EARs can be useful for comparative purposes against headphones measured on the same rig. These headphones just play the bass so well, all the details like the attack, speed, depth and control are there - its not super accurate like serious studio headphones but it's really good for what it is. So where does this leave me with the Dali IO6 so far, it has a very good impressive strong foundation that makes it a sound solid investment right out of the box.Great transient reproduction also contributes to a clear location of the sound elements in the stereo panorama, but also to an excellent spatial image for a closed headphone. The third mode, Transparency, bypasses the Passive Noise Isolation (PNI) by feeding external ambient audio into the headphone audio. Unlike quite a few competitors they don’t have accelerometers, so if you take the headphones off music continues to play until you instruct it otherwise. With DALI's passion for music reproduction, they were convinced that they could do with headphones what they have done with speakers; provide a better sounding product that delivers music experiences superior to the established competition. An integrated, beautifully timed sound can be gleaned from the Dalis, it just errs on the side of caution.

The headphones are relatively lightweight too, and that helps ensure that the headphones remain comfortable over longer periods of time. These are two of the fine lines that Dali, like a particularly overburdened tightrope artiste, is walking with its IO-6 wireless, active noise-cancelling headphones.
