The maturing process takes eight years, after which it is refined with Texas Mesquite and oak charcoal. Longbranch Bourbon was created in 2016 by Wild Turkey Master Distiller Eddie Russell and cultural tastemaker Matthew McConaughey.

This is also why I think we haven’t seen many variants of the Longbranch brand launch since this initial product showed up on the scene. This unique process results in an extraordinarily balanced and smooth sipping whiskey with subtle hints of smoky sweetness. This is a vatting of 6 year old, 8 year old and 12 year old bourbons and there have been over 11 batches releases since it's inception. I pulled out one of my favorite whiskies from my collection: Master’s Keep Bottled in Bond, which was reviewed very highly by Taylor.I like how closely this hews to the Wild Turkey profile on the nose, though the palate mostly underdelivers, which I will attribute to the dilution down to 86 proof (43% ABV).

The supply of the manufacturers via the network of wholesalers and intermediaries also harbours uncertainties and sometimes unintentionally incorrect information. Imagine a celebrity endorsed whiskey that is aged eight years and touched by another wood like mesquite?I also don’t like to completely kill beloved bottles like this, so I had to have a backup bottle to tag David in. The bourbon though apparently wasn't named Wild Turkey until 1940 when a distillery executive shared his bourbon with friends on an annual hunting trip.

Either way, this is a tasty slightly-sweet bourbon with just barely enough tongue burn to feel legitimate. Longbranch thus connects the two states of Kentucky and Texas with Hollywood through the traditional brand Wild Turkey. Longbranch has been refined using charcoal from both Kentucky white oak and Texan mesquite in a nod to both mens' home states, and the bottle bears the signatures of both Russell and McConaughey in a nod to the spirit in which this bourbon was made – that of friendship and partnership. We’ll firmly ignore the fact that McConaughey is actually on payroll at Wild Turkey as Creative Director. In 2016 Matthew McConaughey joined the Wild Turkey team as Creative Director and in 2018 Longbranch was released.Longbranch from Wild Turkey has been refined using charcoal from Kentucky White Oak and Texan Mesquite as a nod to both home states.
