About this deal

If you’re new to the ideas of the mind body connection and neuroplastic pain, which book is a great starting point. The exercises above are part of a series of 6 PRT exercises designed exclusively for the Curable program. fMRIs have consistently shown differences in the brain before and after people go through pain reprocessing therapy. I have also read work by Dr John Sarno, which is similar, but this feels more science-driven and obviously modern, because it came out just a few months ago. Heard about the author because of an article in the Washington Post about the Pain Psychology Center and their ways of treating chronic pain.

It was tough going, my body wasn’t used to that kind of distance, my blisters had blisters, two of my toes nails fell off and for 3 days afterwards I couldn’t climb the stairs. I felt my own injured hip (following a nasty automobile accident four years later) act truant by the time I finished listing Dr. The goal is to get your brain off high alert, to almost hypnotize it into understanding it is in a SAFE STATE and, as all the tests have proven, you don't have a killer disease, and everything is COOL. Of all the stories, studies, and statistics that I’ve presented in this book, this is the most mind-boggling. I’ve suffered from a lot of digestive hypersensitivity and so trying to use this book to make sense of it.While the few pages of actual ideas presented in the book are worthwhile and valuable reading, I can't recommend it as a full book.

This book was so much fun to read that I can see myself re-reading this in the future, when I need a reminder. Scientists study positive affect by having subjects look at happy images, watch funny videos, or listen to joyful music. I do believe that changing your habits of thinking, feeling and behaving CAN re-wire your brain and reduce your fear and pain - but there are millions of us (including me) who have a chronic physical condition that is causing our pain.

Because the therapy is quite straightforward you can do it even if you’re severely affected by illness. By a gradually increased exposure to different types of exercise, I have had some corrective experiences that showed me that there are certain things I can already do again without crashing, reducing my fear of trying to do more again. The fibromyalgia diagnosis I received over a decade ago, thinking there was no cure, I just couldn't accept living like that for the rest of my life.

If the book had just been telling a story, I would likely have rated it 4 stars, because it was pleasant and inspiring; however, I feel like books that introduce skills need to end with a summary, review, or outline of some sort about what the skills were and when/how to use them: This seems especially important when the book is written in a breezy, conversational style. It gave me simple tools to get me through the difficult process of stopping medication, which had been exacerbating my pain for years. And after 3 weeks of applying the mindfulness and having this mantra in my head with positive thoughts, I can now say that 50% of my pain is already gone. Gordon a false and fleeting illusion of ‘cure’, he fortuitously was handed a book on the brain-body connection to pain. Alan Gordon, head honcho at the Pain Psychology Center, wants you to know that it's not in your head, but it's your head that has to be treated. Having stumbled across this book and put its recommendations into practice, I have been pain free for over a month.
