About this deal

Detectives can explore every shadowy corner of the City of Angels, rendered in gorgeous and authentic detail on a massive 33x21 inch game board. The tuckbox for the case is opened and all lettered case files will be placed facedown on their corresponding area on the main board. There’s nothing else quite like it, and the simple but effective rules will appeal to both new and experienced board gamers alike. There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data. Learn how to design your own cases with our Case Design Guide then download our full Case Design Kit to bring your own case to reality!

BE A HEEL: One player will take on the role of The Chisel, whose only goal is to stall and misdirect the detectives at every turn using bluffing, manipulation, and (often) outright lies. Most players will step into the shoes of LAPD homicide detectives, hungry for glory and willing to do whatever it takes to successfully close a case, even if that means intimidating suspects, concealing evidence, and hiring snitches to rat on their fellow detectives. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products. In this variant, the detective still challenges the suspects, but an incorrect guess will result in stress. Detective: CoA uses the innovative ARC (Adaptive Response Card) System to create the feel of interrogating a suspect.

If the detective is successful, they gain "leverage" over the suspect and can force the truth out of him or her the next time they ask a question. You solve crimes by exploring the city, gathering clues, and, you guessed it, interrogating dishonest suspects. You are directed to numbered paragraphs by a player grid, and you will still have the option to challenge a suspect's response to you. Any new information for lettered case cards will be put in when learned, or new suspects discovered. We’ve partnered with Forteller Games to bring the most immersive audio experience to Detective: City of Angels featuring professional audio narration, thematic music and foley delivered by a global cast of actors.

Since most crimes are Suspect, Weapon, and Motive, it means that a player must identify a suspect that they have knowledge of, have found and identified the murder weapon, and choose a motive found on the back of detective casebook. We aim to reply within 1 hour, however depending on the number of queries it may take us slightly longer to get back to you! Also, be aware that this game is a one time play through as solving the crime means that it cannot be played through again. Also, for a game meta, recommend when asking questions to suspects that players put a circle on their investigation sheet in the areas corresponding to the suspect and lettered case card. Each provides a new experience for the detectives who will use any means necessary to catch the killer (or culprit. The reason being is the Chisel is pretty much acting like a Gamemaster and is just making sure everyone is having a good time. When Billy O'Shea insists that the victim was a regular at Topsy's Nightclub, is he telling the truth or is The Chisel subtly leading the detectives toward a dead end that will cost them precious time?

Sleuth Mode is also great for a Chisel to get an understanding of a case before taking it to the table for the detectives to solve. Suspects do not simply give paragraph-book responses; instead The Chisel carefully chooses how they will answer. The first day of the game a detective will place their miniature on the board at a police station at the start of their turn, this is only done on the first day. The unforgiving consequences of an interrogation gone bad ensured every question felt tense and every clue proved vital. Nothing is more satisfying than correctly challenging a tough witness, and nothing is funnier than watching a player repeatedly failing to recognise that the sweet old lady next door really doesn’t know anything! Most players will step into the shoes of LAPD Homicide detectives that will do whatever it takes to solve the case, but one player will take on the role of The Chisel whose goal is to stall and misdirect the detectives at every turn. It is also possible to play the game cooperatively, either against the Chisel or against a gamebook that simulates the Chisel.
