About this deal

Adding fans to the bottom didn’t appreciably move the needle for GPU thermals either, so skip that idea unless extending the feet. This is primarily an air cooling case, and we’d like to see a spot added for at least one exhaust fan somewhere to get the hot air out. Fortunately, as I’ll get into a little later, that is far from the experience you get with this enclosure.

Glide it to achieve the optimal proportion for your setup, customising the area for CPU cooling on one side and graphics card width on the other. I was still a bit concerned about the difficulties of getting a full system into such a small enclosure. I really love the Terra's looks and size and it seems to be one of the few SFF cases that are widely available right now from a mainstream dealer.

Given that the 4070 FE doesn’t totally line-up with the PSU in the Terra, this would likely matter even more with a larger or longer card like a 4080 FE or Gigabyte Aero, and less so with a traditional non-flow-through card like an RX 7900 XT.

There is not only enough space to plug the 24 pin, the USB 3 and USB C front connectors into the motherboard once it’s installed, but there is plenty of room allotted for cable management beneath the power supply. While it’s a nice inclusion, I feel that more people interested in an enclosure like this will be using the Terra with a full size GPU and one of the better, low profile CPU coolers. In general it works well, and the only con is that when tightening a screw, it tends to move the spine a little bit – so the freedom costs some structure there. For materials, the aluminum exterior looks and feels high-end on this model, although the black version of the case that we saw at Computex seems like a future fingerprint and scuff problem. The absolute number doesn’t matter much here -- remember that you can control your fans to affect the noise, and this case has no fans, so all we’re really testing is how the cooler fans interact with the case panels.

You can’t compare them to other cases directly, unless the other case explicitly uses the same hardware, BIOS configuration, and fan speeds. Last Updated: 2023-11-09 The Fractal Terra Mini-ITX case was the first through our revamped suite of ITX reviews. Scythe Big Shuriken 3, Thermalright AXP120-X67, Deepcool AN600 are all 67mm and would provide much better cooling. It’s always interesting to see how a manufacturer is going to address the problems of fitting modern hardware into as small an enclosure as possible, and do this without compromising cooling.Front Panel: Solid sustainably sourced walnut front panel with aluminum power button and two USB ports: 1x USB 3. Fractal Design Terra Silver - Wood Walnut front panel - Small form factor - mITX gaming case - PCIe 4. The movable spine means that GPU and CPU cooler clearances are variable based on spine position, enabling sacrificing space for one to give to the other. Unless you need the extra power SFX-L affords, we recommend sticking to true SFX PSUs in the Terra just for ease of use and flexibility.
