About this deal

Will explores this dilemma during a long elevator ride down, in which he is visited by the ghosts of people who have been impactful in his life.

Our main character believes that he must uphold justice for his brothers death, by killing his killer. The book received starred reviews from Booklist, [7] Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, [8] Horn Book, [9] Kirkus, [5] Publishers Weekly, [10] and School Library Journal, [11] as well as positive reviews from Shelf Awareness.Toxic Masculinity and Vulnerability - Will lives in a society that expects men to be tough, to stifle their feelings and emotions. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. As Will rides the elevator to the lobby, he is joined by several ghosts: Shawn's friend Buck who was killed by Frick in a gang initiation, Will's childhood friend Dani who was killed when they were eight, Will's Uncle Mark who died in a bad drug situation, Will's father Mikey who tried to kill Mark's killer and died for killing the wrong guy, Buck's killer Frick who was killed by Shawn, and finally, Shawn himself.

It is a constant reminder that the protagonist is only fifteen, being put into a situation many could never imagine. Jason Reynolds is an author I discovered last year and I have yet to pick up a book by him I haven't loved.I downloaded this intending on possibly getting to it sometime, but I opened it up out of curiosity and ended up reading the entire thing in about an hour. Uncle Mark tries to walk Will through his plan step-by-step and Will finds he can't get past the part where he pulls out the gun. Long Way Down is a young adult novel, written in prose, that tells the story of a teenage boy, Will who is seeking revenge for the murder of his older brother. I did enjoy the way the author narrates the audiobook, but it was too fast for me to get attached to the story or the characters.

This was a powerful and unique book , but the reason I’m giving it 3 stars is because it somehow missed the mark for me. is so unlike normal poetry, being a novel about gun violence and and loss and revenge in free verse, you may just think again. That said, I still absolutely loved this book and cannot wait to see what Jason Reynolds releases next.
