Its wide variety of modes make it a hugely entertaining release to play with friends or by yourself, and the vast range of songs ensures that you'll always have something to sing.

Playing these modes and racking up points will enable you to unlock others (or you can spend your VoxPoints). A long running series of compilation albums that rounded up all the latest releases onto one handy disc, almost everyone had at least a few at some point - even if they did hold slightly less appeal when we moved on to obscure piano playing women and angsty grunge. Lyrics come up on the screen in front of the official music video – all thirty tracks on this game come with said promo clip – with each word also expressed as a bar reflecting the length of the note and the pitch. Whether this is an issue with my mics or not, I’m unsure, but would recommend trying other microphones if you have the option as this ruined the game for me. The main problem, though, is that the game cannot recognise high notes regardless of your microphone.

There are some improvements to be made but with this the only real karaoke option on Xbox One, if you want to sing this is the only choice you have…for NOW. There is Duet mode where you can plug in multiple microphones and take turns singing different parts of the song. However, if you are more co-ordinated than me then you’ll enjoy the selection of dances, which fit nicely into the songs and range in difficulty. You are scored on the song by how well you hit the pitch and hold the notes, with a numeric and up-to-five-stars score.

Karaoke aficionados who prefer a challenge may instead be interested in By Heart mode, which is the same as Classic mode only with players having to remember the words when presented with the occasional missing line of lyrics.But a lack of content, and a limited variety of song types with the on-disc setlist (and no confirmation on any future DLC) as well as no real innovation in the genre of the game limits it from being much more else than a short burst of fun from time to time with some friends. At the end of the song, you're awarded VoxPoints depending on how well you performed and these points can be used to unlock game modes on each song. You won't be finding noughties or nineties hits in here, though – most of the songs were released in 2013 or later, save for James Blunt's You're Beautiful, which came out a grand 11 years ago. The game suggests changing your TV to Game mode to combat any lag but this made things worse, and there is no calibration option either. Sadly, no four player games here if you are a real karaoke fan and have the We Sing adaptor and four microphones. Having selected your song of choice, you're immediately faced with a choice of two game modes that can accommodate up to four microphones. In the edit page, go to the 'Metadata' tab and add your Juno artist, label or release page for listeners to purchase your release / releases.Actually, that's their only purpose, but at least there is an alternative for everybody of any ability to be able to participate in all parts of the game. What makes this outing interesting is the addition of Golden Notes, which are special high notes that are hard to hit, yet reward you with extra points if you do. The amount of game modes is as varied as the song list: in addition to the Classic and Duet modes, you've got plenty of other variations that are fun to play.

Other multiplayer modes include ‘20,000’ where you play against your friends with the first to 20,000 points winning the bragging rights. Johnny, I'm going to see them in York next month, can't wait, only got the first three albums at the moment. The only way that you'll be able to get a high score and unlock all of the achievements is if you can sing comfortably in mid-range, and not many can do this.
