Since its establishment, the Jamaica Coffee Board has helped give Blue Mountain coffee ‘best in the world’ status in the coffee industry, with the board thoroughly inspecting the size, colour and cut quality of beans. Kenya's acidic soils provide excellent conditions for the growth of quality coffee, especially the renowned arabica bean, which is known to take on fantastic cocoa notes in Kenyan coffees. Coffee farming in the Blue Mountains is characterised by mostly small holdings of up to 4 hectares but there are larger estates of up to 70 hectares in size. Jamaican coffee has a unique flavor, a mixture of aromatic peculiarities that can rarely be found in the same bean.

The local soil favours the growth of a unique variety of Arabica which, thanks also to its atypical location and particular taste, feeds the fame of the Blue Mountain coffee beans.Only coffee grown in the legally defined Blue Mountain range in Jamaica can be certified as Blue Mountain Coffee. This, combined with an abundance of rich, fertile soil and good drainage makes it especially suited to the growing of coffee.
