About this deal

Normally we see each fairy and their poem displayed on facing pages, so even though hte books are diminutive in size (fairies at scale! The first adventure in the Folio Society editions of ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ series, Enid Blyton’s The Enchanted Wood features Jonathan Burton’s enchanting illustrations and a new introduction by Michael Morpurgo.

Barker’s whimsical verses introduce the reader to fairies that appear throughout the seasons, as different trees and plants bloom. The beautiful artwork is accompanied by the original poetry by Barker, which not only tells you more about the fairy in question, but also shows that painting with poetry is an art form that's no longer as pure as it was.Not only does it work as a collection of poems, but it also helps teaches children about flowers and plants and enriches nature for them. The name of Frederick Warne reminded me of books from my own childhood, Beatrix Potter, Edward Lear and Kate Greenaway. Most of the wild and cultivated plants included in the Flower Fairy books can still be easily found, and still, we hope, continue to inspire future generations of all ages. I bought this beautiful book as a gift for a friend's great-granddaughter who is 4 years old and still hoping to find her first fairy. There is a useful index, an introduction about Cicely Mary Barker – which is fairly short but long enough that most children will probably read it - and (of course) the poems and the pictures are just gorgeous. Her plants and flowers were observed with complete botanical accuracy and in the fairies themselves she captured perfectly the unselfconscious grace of children, whom she used to sketch in her sister's school. The book has the complete collection of poems of Cicely Mary Barker divided in sections with the drawings in great quality and detail. If someone is interested in seeing/purchasing these pictures of this collection (without the poems) should go to http://www. If I'm being honest, some of the poems are better than others, but I love the whole concept so much and the art is always five stars in my book. Each poem is individually presented on the facing page to its relevant painting, just as in the first editions of Barker’s little volumes, while our font has been carefully selected for its close resemblance to the original.

The first great English detective novel, Wilkie Collins’ The Moonstone is presented in a Folio Society limited edition of 750 numbered copies. As mentioned this is the perfect book for a mother and daughter to get in some bonding time, but this certainly does not mean you need to have a daughter or be a little girl yourself to enjoy this read. Having all the stories compiled in one volume definitely remains handy, though the format wa a touch off putting at times. This complete collection of Cicely Mary Barker's Flower Fairies features a brand-new enchanting cover.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Through the beautiful illustrations the author brings to life the magic of flowers and how each has their very own special place in a garden.
