I'm not a fan of many dark fantasy novels as I find some of them can be too much for me leaving me feeling sick but I thought the author did the dark themes well. Rose Wilson is a co-author pen-name for series set in the world of Olympus that are not family-friendly. But he was treating her with respect (he was handsome), he protected her (he was also handsome) and so much more. She can usually be found reading fairytale retellings, playing board games or binge-watching Netflix shows.

I also liked the love story although I did think the love interest changed his mind about the main character a bit too quickly (hating her to then liking her) but I was rooting for them to get together so I wasn't bothered.Reyna was born a valuable slave to the Gold Court, imprisoned her whole life in a glittering palace by sadistic, greedy fae.

It felt like he was barely in the story, and when he did show up, he had no redeeming qualities other than being hot?

It’s bad when literally every character she meets keeps saying she’s annoying and stupid and I can’t do anything but agree.

After starting the book, I read several reviews that echoed my thoughts – she's portrayed as dumb, childish, and annoying. It clearly pained him to play the villain but with the stakes so high, time and time again he had no choice. It has everything I want in a fantasy…unique magic system, Fae, royalty, enemies to lovers, chosen one, oh…and a dark and broody love interest 😎 I am absolutely dying for book two.The sexual tension between them is palpable, yet they resist each other due to the many secrets and lies between them. There was one scene where attraction between Reyna and Maz was described but it felt perfunctory and hollow.
