About this deal

EVGA’s first XR1 capture device may have been replaced by the XR1 PRO, admittedly a more capable device (with less confusing technical abilities), but the original XR1 is still out there, and if your capture needs are satisfied by 1080p/60 then the XR1 is just fine. There’s some information regarding the card itself, and a small “OBS Certified” sticker, but that’s about it. Customizable RGB LEDS and built in audio mixer controls at your fingertips with the EVGA XR1 Pro control dial. On a more practical note, managing two computer systems simultaneously while managing a stream can be unwieldy.

The EVGA XR1 Lite supports up to 1080p capture at 60FPS, this is a good middle ground which covers decent visuals with fluid motion. Elgato’s Cam Link products are a dead-simple way to take the HDMI output from any camera that offers it, and turn this into something that your OS sees as a webcam. I've tried two consoles, I've plugged the USB-C to USB-3 cable into every single USB port on my computer, four of which are USB 3.So when we had the chance to check out the EVGA XR1 Pro Capture Card, I leapt at it in an effort to see just what the PC peripheral company brought to the table with its foray into content creation tools. The fact that the XR1 requires no special drivers and is immediately available in OBS makes the setup and use of this device with a Windows machine effortless.

With Windows 10, the capture card can be used without ever installing the accompanying software package. This same Olympus camera setups have worked properly at 1080p and 4K with an array of Elgato, and off-brand, inexpensive knock-off brand capture devices.

Often times, the scaler built inside your capture card cannot handle low resolutions properly, especially those run through upscalers. The higher bitrate does require more system resources with all cases increasing their CPU usage by around 10%. Additionally, working with variable refresh rate monitors means you can keep GSync or FreeSync enabled while playing - something you can even take advantage of if you're streaming on an Xbox Series X with a compatible screen. This is awesome for those looking to game on their 4K display and want to stream or record gameplay at 1080p. For current-gen console owners (and by that I mean Xbox owners as PS5 only supports 120 Hz at 4K) this means that you can have your Xbox connected to a 120 Hz 2560×1440 monitor, with the XR1 in between. On the front you’ll find two audio jacks: one to listen to the audio mix of the capture card, while the other is to integrate party chat from your console into your stream.
