About this deal
Etta is more headstrong, fired up by the desire to become an artist and willingly immersing herself in a bohemian lifestyle. The fact that the story is also set in various parts of the world also increased its interest and enjoyability. Celie, the eldest, works in the photography studio, is an ardent suffragist, and is in love with her German tutor, Max. In short and overall I did enjoy reading ‘Love In A Time Of War’ and I would recommend it to fans of historical fiction.
I enjoyed being in different locales - England, Egypt, Italy - and how family secrets were to become exposed. In 1913, in a quiet corner of London, the three Fry sisters are coming of age, dreaming of all the possibilities the bright future offers.Celie, the eldest, is clear-headed, thoughtful and has a strong sense of justice particularly when it comes to the question of women’s suffrage. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, I did find the story a little slow to start with and Adrienne Chinn skillfully picked up the narratives pace. Their relationship turns to romance, and Jessie has to decide whether to give up nursing and be a married woman (the two things are not compatible in those days).
My mother said I was obsessed with pulling books off their bookshelves when I was a toddler and flipping through all the pages.Little do they realise how their own decisions echo the choices their mother also faced at a similar age.
