About this deal
In The Seven Sisters, The Storm Sister, and at the start of The Shadow Sister, CeCe and Star come as a ‘pair’.
Every scene – for the book reads like the film it deserves to be – is just full of detail and evocative writing. My problem with Star is that I don't get her, she doesn't make sense to me, and I HATED that family! The Shadow Sister is the third in the sweeping Seven Sisters series, “soaked in glamour and romance” ( Daily Mail) and perfect for fans of Downton Abbey and the novels of Kate Morton. There were lovely mentions of Ally the second sister whose story is featured in book two, and also a thread leading to the fourth sister’s story. Teilweise war es mir aber doch ein bisschen zuu kitschig und Realitätsfern und mit Star, die sich immer nur aufopfert, bin ich auch nicht warm geworden. From the outside it seems like a very strange dynamic, and one wonders why Star – an adult in her mid-twenties at this point – never speaks, never makes any decisions and never goes anywhere without her sister.
I wanted to read fast but also to take my time as the secrets came spilling out one by one and really went in directions I was not expecting. I believe homes really reflect their owners, and the chance to describe High Weald across generations gave the garden-lover inside me a wonderful canvas to play with. I love the way Lucinda does that – so by the time you’ve read the entire series, it will be one huge tapestry of stories and locations. It centres around Flora MacNichol, one of Orlando’s ancestors to whom Star is also possibly related. They go through most of their adult lives living with pain and betrayal over something that could have been quite easily fixed if they’d acted fast and discretely.Mouse suffered extreme emotional trauma when he lost his wife, which can be a trigger for depression.
