In our household, we have a small collection of cookbooks that we like to turn to when we feel like switching things up with our home cooking.

While I normally prefer glossy, because they’re more resistant to spills and tears, I think that in this case they add to the vintage-ish look of this book. The font and contract also make the recipes easy to read, and the formatting make them easy to follow. So, naturally I expected the recipes in his book about cooking for his family to be bold and loud and personal, just maybe toned down a bit for home cooks. I'd totally expect that he cooks like this at home given his history in French restaurants like Le Select and La Palette, but I think the majority of his audience wouldn't see these as comforting, home style dishes and they almost certainly wouldn't associate them with the kind of personality they expect from Matty.Matty Matheson follows up his New York Times bestseller with a book that is all about cooking at home.

So many of these recipes are just way over the top as far as ingredients and equipment required goes. You will need to be aware of not getting lost in translation with some of the terms used however; American granulated sugar is the equivalent of UK caster sugar, rutabaga is swede etc. The cake is not very sweet, but rather deeply chocolate and rich, perfect with a cup of coffee or glass of milk.So, in this book, you can find great dishes to cook for your girlfriend, boyfriend, friends, family, grandmother, anyone. Along with beautiful photographs of Matty’s dishes and his farm, this one-of-a-kind cookbook is filled with signature recipes that are equal parts approachable and tasty. In early 2019, he launched of his self produced web series Just a Dash on his YouTube channel which now also features a Home Style Cookery that includes recipes from the book such as The Inedible Seven-Layer Dip (and no, that’s not a typo, just typical Matheson humour). In Matty Matheson: Home Style Cookery, Matty combines the best ingredients with his madness, creating a unique cookbook that could only have been written by himself. Just before ending he still shares with you 11 delicious desserts, like his wife Trish’s Chocolate Chip Cookies and Creme Caramel.

Matty's approach to food makes this book unique, and most importantly, makes him a brilliant cookbook author.
