About this deal
When putting together the avatar, the Wii version also allows the player to select different color designs for the outfits, an option not offered in the handheld versions. My girlfriend however had never played a Wii game before save for Wii Sports so the Wiimote/Nunchuk set up, along with the motion controls took a bit of getting used to – especially with the mini games. However these shots are not only rare, but they are the same exact looping animation each time the character shows up. So while this game isn’t the most innovative of titles, it does stand out with how it combines all these genres as well as the demographic it is aiming for.
There aren’t a lot of options here (between two and three for each), so that was a bit of a disappointment. It might still be fun to pick up once in a while for a few minutes, but the game doesn’t have much replay value. It’s fun to play through each mode a few times and to try and unlock everyone, but once you have…there’s really nothing left to do unless you really love the game and want to try and win with a team of all Strong characters or keep beating your best time. Less experienced or younger gamers will find it a bit harder, but even then I still didn’t manage to become Scream Queen and considering my stats and ranking I’m not sure how one actually does.
This freaky-fab competitor is a rock-solid player who never just wants to watch the game from above. Generally it’s the sound of you walking (a lot), a happy noise when you do a task correctly and a negative intonation when you screw up. It’s fun for what it is and it was cute enough that I didn’t mind the cakewalking, so actual Monster High fans will enjoy it even more. There's no option to drift in Skultimate Roller Maze, so for a Strong racer to round a corner, they need to either slow down by occasionally letting the forward button go and proceed cautiously or hit the brake and at the same time turn into a new direction. Like I said, the game does have its moments where it will kick your butt, but they are few and far between.
It’s got very simple controls, it’s easy to learn and I never had a real problem with it except for a ramp in one level that I could never actually clear. So the game does feel a bit bare bones, especially without any sort of multiplayer, but there are a lot of playable character, each of which has their own special move and there’s a bit of variety to the different race types. Unlike the handheld versions, the console version has students walking around the school, has a sign outside the school ground that is readable, and contains slightly more complex versions of some mini-games.
Emulator is web based and uses keyboard controls so if you have a computer you can play without having to download!
